Kolasiński Dominates as Dutch Autumn 2023 Brings Community Together in VeenendaalEnglish

A blistering 5.39 second winning average in the 3x3x3 Cube by Poland standout Tymon Kolasiński set the tone at Dutch Autumn 2023, establishing the sharpest mark of the day. Held at Sporthal Veenendaal-West on September 23, 2023, the gathering brought together 203 competitors in Veenendaal, Netherlands. Beyond the brisk times recorded at the timing mats, the venue buzzed with activity as solvers reconnected, shared algorithms between rounds, and tackled a varied six-event schedule spanning ten total rounds across the single-day speedcubing tournament.

While the main stage drew large crowds for the classic Rubik's Cube, the community energy was equally vibrant around the side stations and practice tables. Competitors of all backgrounds gathered to compare hardware and analyze solve reconstructions throughout the morning and afternoon. The shared passion for speed cubing was evident in every corner of the sports hall, where seasoned veterans and newer participants mingled seamlessly between calls for judging and running duties.

The spotlight on personal progress shone brightly for several dedicated participants taking on packed schedules. Thijs Penning entered four events and delivered a massive breakthrough, securing a 2x2x2 Cube personal best of 3.95 seconds, which was 48.6 percent faster than his previous best of 7.68 seconds, alongside his first ever attempts at Pyraminx in 6.28 seconds and 4x4x4 Cube in 1:49.94. Karl van Til tackled three disciplines, chopping 41.3 percent off his 3x3x3 Cube personal record with a 13.65 second finish compared to his prior 23.26 mark, while also registering his first official attempts at 2x2x2 Cube in 6.24 seconds and Pyraminx in 9.09 seconds. Jelle Hoogendorp shaved 34.6 percent from his previous Pyraminx best of 9.77 seconds to finish in 6.39 seconds, logging first-time attempts in 2x2x2 Cube with 5.20 seconds and 4x4x4 Cube with 3:03.12.

The pursuit of individual milestones continued across the floor. Kion Kessels embraced a demanding six-event slate, posting a 4x4x4 Cube personal best of 50.18 seconds that improved upon his former 1:06.45 time by 24.5 percent, while clocking his first official efforts in 2x2x2 Cube in 6.41 seconds and 7x7x7 Cube in 5:45.78 to claim 27th place. Noa Moeniralm dropped his Pyraminx personal record by 24 percent to 6.98 seconds from 9.18, alongside first attempts in 2x2x2 Cube at 7.99 seconds and 4x4x4 Cube at 3:10.70.
