Abdelhak Kaddour delivered one of the weekend's most defining moments in northern France, capturing the 7x7x7 Cube title with a 2:22.29 average and a best single of 2:18.54. The demanding big-cube discipline capped an intense showcase of puzzle diversity at Douvrin Open 2023, where 107 competitors gathered at Salle Lirdeman on March 18 and 19. The niche disciplines and specialized formats took center stage throughout the cubing competition, drawing dedicated contenders across 11 official events and 23 total rounds. Maxime Madrzyk claimed the 3x3x3 Blindfolded crown, navigating the mental demands of sightless execution to post a winning single of 23.24 seconds among 29 competitors. Wilfrid Py took the second spot on the podium at 47.70 seconds, and Victor Chenu followed in third place with a mark of 51.24 seconds.
In the Megaminx event, Victor Wijsman bested a field of 41 participants across two rounds, averaging 42.61 seconds with a standout single solve of 40.41. The side events also produced rapid-fire finishes on shorter puzzles, as Anthony Lafourcade captured the Skewb victory with a 2.84 average and a 2.03 best single from 39 competitors. Ilija Jovanovic took the top honors in Pyraminx, logging a 3.87 average and a 3.25 single to lead a 58-person field in Douvrin, France.
Big-cube dominance defined another major portion of the weekend courtesy of Sebastian Weyer from Germany. In the 6x6x6 Cube, Weyer posted an average of 1:38.26 with a single of 1:35.07, leading Kaddour at 1:46.74 and Fertier at 1:48.58.
