Xavier Antonio Balderrama Outlasts Deep Field at Diablo Cubing Oruro 2023English
Sixty-six competitors gathered at the Sociedad de Ingenieros de Bolivia for Diablo Cubing Oruro 2023, setting up one of the most fiercely contested weekends on the Bolivian calendar. Across 12 distinct events and 23 total rounds, reaching the finals demanded intense consistency over two full days of competition on January 28 and 29. With large turnouts across both classic and specialist disciplines, every advancement felt hard-earned, testing nerves and execution alike.
The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew 59 entrants, making it the most congested bracket of the entire WCA competition. Whittling that large field down across three rounds created immense pressure, leading to an exceptionally fast final round where sub-10 marks determined the podium. Xavier Antonio Balderrama captured the title with a winning average of 9.52 seconds, supplemented by a sharp single of 7.98 seconds. Josias Milan Sirpa Pinto took second place with a 9.94 average, while Axel Elias Espinoza Ribera secured third at 10.27, rounding out the marquee 3x3 results in Oruro, Bolivia.
Josias Milan Sirpa Pinto emerged as the weekend's most prolific multi-event athlete, claiming victories across three different disciplines. In the 5x5x5 Cube, he secured first place with an impressive 59.16 average, finishing ahead of Claudio Andre Gomez Villca at 1:05.88 and Enrique Adolfo Delgado at 1:06.96. Sirpa Pinto followed up with a win in the 6x6x6 Cube, logging a 1:55.65 average to narrowly edge out Jhoel Ariel Espindola Perez, who posted a close second-place average of 1:56.18. To cap his dominant showing across complex puzzles, Sirpa Pinto also won the single-round Skewb event with a 4.52 average.
The large-cube lineup concluded with an equally high-level 7x7x7 Cube final, where Jhoel Ariel Espindola Perez claimed the top spot with a 2:55.28 average and a single of 2:51.14. Sirpa Pinto maintained his podium presence by finishing second with a 3:02.59 average, while Claudio Andre Gomez Villca stood on the podium in third at 3:07.37. Meanwhile, Alejandro Marze Rossel delivered remarkable performances across two very different events, taking first place in the 4x4x4 Cube with a 31.99 average over three rounds and winning Megaminx with a 1:02.10 average.
Short-format events also presented crowded brackets, requiring absolute precision from the opening turns. In the 2x2x2 Cube, 31 entrants battled through two rounds before Amaru Aloys Ancasi Pevec won the title with a 3.25 average, barely staying ahead of runner-up Daniel C. Bedoya at 3.31 and Jhoel Manuel Callata Cardoso at 3.83. Antonio Adorno Suarez secured the Pyraminx crown out of 30 competitors with a 3.15 average. In 3x3x3 One-Handed, Callata Cardoso took first place with a 16.71 average, while Claudio Andre Gomez Villca won Square-1 in 15.01, and Sebastián Morón Mariscal conquered the 3x3x3 Blindfolded field with a winning average of 1:54.24.
Beyond the podiums, the event highlighted tremendous growth among participants pursuing new milestones in speed cubing. Adrian Soliz Molina produced one of the weekend's most remarkable time drops, shaving 48.2 percent off his 3x3x3 personal best down to 29.71 seconds. Alex Rocha Condori made his debut in the 2x2x2 event with a 5.89 single while slashing his 3x3x3 mark by 39.6 percent down to 25.05. Gadiel Calle Condarco registered his first Pyraminx result with a 12.62 single and improved his Rubik's Cube best by 33.8 percent to 31.60. Gerardo Israel Pallares Rocha tackled three events, debuting on 2x2x2 with 8.83 and Pyraminx with 16.15, while chopping 30.9 percent off his main 3x3x3 mark to hit 45.50.
Fresh faces and multi-event competitors continued to make major strides across the scorecards. First-time competitor Jhostin Deyvid Trujillo Diaz opened his speedcubing journey with a 7.39 single in Pyraminx and a 28.99 in the standard 3x3x3. Fellow newcomer Jhohan Stevens Trujillo Diaz completed his first official attempts as well, posting 9.92 in Pyraminx and 29.76 on the 3x3x3. Damián Amilkar Vicente Tordoya expanded his repertoire into four events, logging his first official times in One-Handed at 35.73 and 4x4x4 at 1:14.29, alongside a 21.8 percent improvement on 3x3x3 to reach 11.78. Juan Diego Condori Uño also took on three events, posting initial attempts in 2x2x2 at 8.47 and 4x4x4 at 1:44.22 while trimming his 3x3x3 best by 23.2 percent down to 19.67.
The depth of talent was on full display in the region during Diablo Cubing Oruro 2023, as all 39 podium placements over the 12 events were claimed by Bolivian competitors. Navigating deep preliminary fields, high cutoff marks, and intense head-to-head finals made each victory a testament to hard work and preparation. As the 2023 competitive season moves forward, this successful gathering in Oruro proves that local speedcubers continue to elevate standards across every puzzle format.
