Ziyu Wu Sweeps Big Cubes as Fast-Rising Talent Shines at Deqing Spring 2025English

105 competitors gathered under one roof as the race against the timer got underway in Huzhou, Zhejiang, China. On April 19, Deqing City Hall hosted Deqing Spring 2025, bringing together an ambitious field across six events and eight rounds of intense play. With youth and rapid progression defining the spirit of the day, solvers pushed their limits across traditional formats and complex big-cube puzzles. The atmosphere inside the hall reflected the sheer momentum of speedcubing across the region, where ambitious solvers continue to lower their personal marks with every passing season in 2025.

The multi-layered puzzles belonged entirely to Ziyu Wu, who put together an extraordinary series of performances across the upper-tier events. In the 5x5x5 Cube, Wu secured the top spot with a winning average of 42.92, highlighted by a best single of 38.91. Ruihang Xu followed closely behind in second place with an average of 43.31, while Zhiyuan Ma earned third place with a 45.84 average. Wu matched aggressive turning with methodical efficiency, setting a high standard that proved difficult for the rest of the 83-person field to match throughout the single round of competition.

Wu extended that commanding form into the 6x6x6 Cube, clocking a winning average of 1:12.53 and delivering the best single of the event at 1:11.43. Qingze Li captured the runner-up position with a 1:38.89 average, ahead of Zhiyuan Ma who recorded 1:41.69 for third place. In the massive 7x7x7 Cube, Wu again separated from the pack, posting a decisive winning average of 1:55.40 and a single of 1:48.68. Tianyao Rong took second place with a 2:17.76 average, while Qingze Li secured another podium finish in third with 2:31.82.

Beyond the standard NxN formats, Wu also demonstrated remarkable versatility by capturing the Megaminx title. Out of 39 competitors in the event, Wu logged a winning average of 28.64 alongside the fastest single solve of 24.05. Shangtong Fu claimed the second step on the podium with an average of 48.39, while Xulang Li finished third with a 51.84 average. Wu rounded out a remarkable individual haul by finishing second in the 4x4x4 Cube, proving adept across varied geometric challenges and solidifying a dominant presence at Deqing Spring 2025.

The 4x4x4 Cube final delivered a thrilling contest between the countrys sharpest talents. Ruihang Xu took the title with a swift 23.87 average, anchored by a best single solve of 18.44 across two rounds of play. Ziyu Wu secured second place with an average of 25.65, while Xulang Li took third place averaging 26.32 among 91 participants. Xu remained composed through the decisive final solves, delivering clean edge pairings and quick transitions on the larger mechanism to secure the victory.

The 3x3x3 One-Handed event provided some of the most dynamic action of the WCA competition, testing single-handed dexterity across two rounds. Zhen Chen earned the championship with a winning average of 9.30, backed by a best single of 8.22. Ruihang Xu took second place with an average of 9.67, edging out Tao Wen who placed third with 9.69. Away from the top of the podium, several improving competitors achieved notable personal milestones that highlighted their rapid development. Yingming Song took on six different events at the venue, recording a 4x4x4 Cube personal best average of 36.27, which marked an improvement of 25.3 percent over a previous mark of 48.53. Song also logged a best finish of 12th place in Megaminx while recording a first ever attempt in the 7x7x7 Cube at 3:30.44 and a first 6x6x6 Cube mark of 2:28.33. All 18 available podium positions across the six disciplines went to competitors representing China, underscoring the deep standard of speed cubing excellence in the country. From classic twists of the Rubik's Cube to intricate twelve-sided puzzles and complex multi-layered layers, solvers pushed the boundaries of modern cubing.
