DC Winter Open 2024 Brings High Speed and Major Breakthroughs to HyderabadEnglish

Tarak Sai Musunuri delivered a commanding performance across the weekend at DC Winter Open 2024, clinching the 3x3x3 Cube title with an exceptional winning average of 7.86 seconds alongside a best single of 7.79. Held at Hira Hall inside the Sree Sindhi Guru Sangat Sabha in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, the gathering brought together 82 competitors across 8 events and 16 rounds of intense speedcubing action on January 27 and 28, 2024.

For dozens of solvers stepping up to the competition tables, the weekend captured the raw thrill of early-career speed cubing. Making an official debut or tackling unfamiliar disciplines tests mental focus under the strict scrutiny of the official timer. Across the venue, newcomers and seasoned participants alike chased personal milestones on the classic Rubik's Cube, transforming weeks of at-home practice into sharp, decisive execution under pressure.

The spotlight shone brightly on competitors unlocking substantial personal milestones across the tournament. Dhaval Saraiya produced one of the most drastic drops of the event, recording a 2x2x2 Cube personal best of 2.92 seconds to slash 57.4 percent off his previous benchmark, while also securing a 3x3x3 Cube best of 17.75. Abhiram Sattiraju took on three events and slashed 55 percent from his previous best in 3x3x3 One-Handed with a 33.20 mark, while also advancing his 3x3x3 Cube personal record to 16.11 seconds. Chodavarapu Devalraj Vamsi contested three events, logging his first ever official attempt at 2x2x2 Cube with an 8.23 and improving his 3x3x3 Cube mark by 37.4 percent to 27.94. Sanjeet Veerabhaktula entered four events and finished 4th in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, taking 38.6 percent off his Pyraminx best at 8.55 and improving his Fewest Moves best to 47.

The breakthroughs continued across every level of experience at DC Winter Open 2024. Aarish Chakraborty made his first official attempt at Pyraminx with a 9.52, while lowering his 3x3x3 Cube time by 26.5 percent to 14.35 and his 2x2x2 Cube time to 5.74. Aditya Maddulapalli entered six events, claiming 10th place in the 3x3x3 Cube, posting his first attempts in Pyraminx at 16.17 and One-Handed at 25.26, and slicing 27.5 percent off his 2x2x2 Cube best to 3.99. Saral Mudunuri logged his first Fewest Moves attempt at 49 to place 14th, while cutting his 2x2x2 Cube mark by 24.4 percent to 2.85 and his 3x3x3 Cube best by 23.1 percent to 11.66.

In the flagship 3x3 results, Musunuri led the field of 80 competitors through three rounds to secure the top step of the podium. Rishab Jain earned second place with a solid 9.43 average, while Mohammed Arif finished close behind in third at 9.44. The event showcased high-level consistency, demonstrating the depth of solving talent present throughout the region during this major 2024 WCA competition.

Whether taking the first official turn on a competition mat or collecting trophies atop the podium, the solvers at DC Winter Open 2024 set an impressive standard for the competitive year ahead.

DC Winter Open 2024
