Specialists Shine on Side Puzzles at D21 Delhi Cube Open D 2024English

Inside the lively Pacific Mall Atrium, the steady rhythm of twisting plastic and the quick taps of timer pads set the tempo for the day. Stacking mats lined the tables as participants gathered beneath the skylights of the New Delhi venue. The single-day schedule placed alternate rotation puzzles alongside standard cubes, giving competitors across the board an immediate platform to showcase non-standard mechanisms and fast turning routines across five total rounds of play.

The D21 Delhi Cube Open D 2024 brought 18 competitors to New Delhi, Delhi, India on December 15, 2024, spotlighting a focused four-event slate. Rather than keeping all eyes solely on traditional three-layered puzzles, the event schedule elevated Skewb and Pyraminx to prime positions. Specialist solvers found ample opportunity to demonstrate technical mastery across these corner-turning and tetrahedral formats during an energetic day of speedcubing action.

In Skewb, where the deep-cut axes demand precise finger placement and sharp spatial awareness, Saransh Tandon navigated two rounds to capture first place. Tandon secured the victory with a 4.77 winning average after putting up a best single of 3.22. Aniket Ahuja followed closely in second place with an average of 5.07, while Aarav Sehgal completed the podium in third with a 6.63 mark in the final round.

The tetrahedral Pyraminx event produced equally sharp turnouts on the tables. Rahul Dutta conquered the field of 15 competitors, taking top honors with a tournament-leading 4.45 average and a swift single of 2.99. Aniket Ahuja earned another runner-up finish with an average of 5.98, while Veydant Kher rounded out the top three by securing third place with a 6.09 average.

Beyond the podium battles, several participants notched notable personal achievements across the floor. Rishi Arora took on all four events, producing a 35.9 percent improvement in Skewb with a personal best of 21.22, cutting his Pyraminx personal best by 29.5 percent down to 11.66, and logging a 30.64 in the 3x3x3 Cube for a 19.3 percent reduction. Eklavya Goel also contested four disciplines, achieving an 8th-place result in Skewb during a first official attempt at 13.83, while lowering his 2x2x2 Cube personal best by 19 percent to 6.08 and his Pyraminx personal best by 16.5 percent to 7.00.

That forward momentum extended throughout the lineup in New Delhi. Viraj Nijhawan tackled four events, claiming 6th place in Skewb during a first official attempt of 15.04 and lowering his 3x3x3 Cube personal best by 9.9 percent to 21.40. Adyant Daga also entered all four events, securing a 5th-place finish in Skewb during a first attempt at the event of 7.44. Vivaan Marwaha delivered a strong 4th-place run in Pyraminx across his three events and lowered his 3x3x3 Cube personal best by 7 percent to 15.36.

Fast action also defined the 2x2x2 Cube round, where short inspection windows and minimal moves left no margin for hesitation. Aniket Ahuja rose to the top of the 16-person field, claiming first place with a 2.55 average and a 2.07 single. Aarav Sehgal earned second place with a 3.07 average, helped by a 1.98 single, while Rahul Dutta took third on a 3.37 average.

The 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube concluded the action as the largest field of the weekend with 18 contenders. Divye Kumar paced the lineup to win the event, posting a 6.84 single on the way to an 8.99 winning average. Jasman Singh secured second place with a 9.69 mark, and Aarav Sehgal added another podium finish by taking third place with a 10.32 average to wrap up the official 3x3 results.

With 12 total podium spots claimed across the four disciplines, the cubing competition delivered competitive speed cubing throughout every bracket. Competitors wrapped up the 2024 gathering having tested themselves across varied twisty puzzle formats at the WCA competition. The solid performances across all five rounds at the D21 Delhi Cube Open D 2024 set a clean competitive standard for the local scene moving into the next season.
