Dilan Huillca Sweeps Five Events as Cusco Spring 2025 Tests Format StrategyEnglish

Inside the halls of CEP. Santa Rosa de Lima, the tables were arranged for a concentrated day of speedcubing on December 6, 2025. Competitors gathered in Cusco, Peru with timers and mats aligned, prepared to face a schedule structured across 11 rounds and seven events. With 24 competitors registered for the meeting, the cutoffs and progression rules defined every stage of the day, leaving little room for tentative warmups and demanding instant precision across every single discipline.

The format demanded rapid adaptation, as four events were contested over a single deciding round while others allowed multiple rounds of qualification. At Cusco Spring 2025, every solver had to weigh risks immediately. Single-round events like 4x4x4 Cube and Megaminx required clean opening solves to establish a dependable average, whereas the multi-stage brackets in the classic puzzles gave competitors a chance to recalibrate between preliminary phases and final showdowns.

Nowhere was this mastery of format clearer than in the performance of Dilan Huillca, who seized five event titles over the course of the day. In the main 3x3x3 Cube event, which featured three full rounds of action for a field of 21 competitors, Huillca secured first place with a 10.06 winning average and an 8.96 single. Jimmy Durand Davalos claimed the runner-up spot with an average of 10.46, followed closely by Marlon Rojas at 10.90 in a tight set of 3x3 results.

The 2x2x2 Cube competition also rewarded multi-round endurance, advancing through two rounds of play among 13 competitors. Dilan Huillca topped the final with a 2.86 average after setting a best single of 2.07. Brayan Stheven Vargas Sullo took second place with a 4.04 mark, while Marcos Jesús Herencia Huillca completed the podium with an average of 4.31. Huillca added another title in Pyraminx, taking first across two rounds with an average of 4.74 ahead of Rojas at 5.25 and Luis Fernando Cano Aguirre at 8.23.

In the single-round brackets, the pressure was absolute. Dilan Huillca navigated the direct final of 4x4x4 Cube with a 40.59 average to edge out Marlon Rojas at 41.03 and Jimmy Durand Davalos at 48.88. In 3x3x3 One-Handed, Huillca shared identical winning averages of 20.92 with Marcos Jesús Herencia Huillca, with Reny Serna taking third at 22.19. Serna claimed his own victory in Megaminx with an average of 51.60, while Natán Riggenbach topped the four-person 3x3x3 Blindfolded round with a single solve of 1:45.38.

Beyond the title contests, the competition yielded significant individual milestones for participants navigating the rounds. Christopher Lima Foco delivered one of the largest drops of the weekend in 2x2x2 Cube, logging a personal best of 3.98 seconds that improved upon his prior standard of 11.43 by 65.2 percent. Edgar David Apaza Merma also cut substantial time in the traditional Rubik's Cube event, registering a 19.79 personal best to finish 20.3 percent faster than his previous mark of 24.83. Andree Fernando Borda Ccana took on three separate events, highlighted by a sixth-place finish in 2x2x2 Cube with a personal best of 4.84 and a 13.6 percent improvement in Pyraminx with a time of 6.86.

Several competitors expanded their repertoires with debut attempts at new disciplines at this cubing competition. Jhostin Daniel Apaza Arivilca entered four events, posting his first official Pyraminx attempt with a 9.38 on his way to fifth place, recording his first 3x3x3 One-Handed solve of 25.39, and dropping his 2x2x2 Cube best by 23.5 percent to 3.06. Bruce Baruc Huaman Huillca placed fourth in 3x3x3 Cube with a 10.29 personal best, down 12.8 percent from 11.80, while also recording his first official 2x2x2 Cube mark of 3.85. Anghela Choquecondori Rodriguez earned seventh in 3x3x3 One-Handed with a personal best of 26.04, improving by eight percent, and lowered her 3x3x3 Cube best to 15.91. Angel Giampierre Huapaya Torres tackled four events on the day, securing a best finish of fourth place in 4x4x4 Cube.

With 22 total podium positions earned by solvers from Peru, the single-day WCA competition showcased the depth of the regional scene. From single-round tests of nerve to three-round tests of consistency, Cusco Spring 2025 offered a thorough examination of speed cubing skill. The efficient format in Cusco provided a balanced proving ground, establishing fresh personal benchmarks and setting the standard for upcoming events in the calendar.
