The UCF Student Union at the University of Central Florida was filled with the rhythmic clatter of plastic and the focused hum of tournament play as 109 competitors gathered for an intense day of Rubik's Cube action. Staged on Pegasus Drive in Orlando, Florida, USA, the venue offered a vibrant backdrop for the speedcubing gathering on October 14, 2023. Solvers from across the region arrived ready to test their inspection routines and turning speed across a packed schedule spanning six distinct events and 12 total rounds of competition.
Morning competition began with large preliminary rounds that filtered the expansive field. The opening battles on the classic 3x3x3 puzzle welcomed 108 competitors, serving as the centerpiece of the program. Across three rigorous stages of turning, contenders looked to secure consistent averages and low single solves. As the early rounds progressed into the afternoon, the energy shifted toward the larger puzzles and specialty events, setting the stage for decisive performances on the tournament stage.
The 3x3 results reached their climax in the final round, where Alexander Persaud delivered a masterclass in precision. Persaud captured the championship with a winning average of 7.13 seconds, highlighted by a best single solve of 7.02 seconds. Owen Brooks secured second place with an average of 8.13 seconds, while Carter Bitz earned third place with a 9.30 average. The high standard of execution throughout the 3x3 final demonstrated the depth of talent present at this WCA competition.
