High Stakes and Tight Margins Define CubiKonce 2025 in ConcepciónEnglish

27 competitors gathered in Concepción, Chile on May 11, 2025, to test their speed and accuracy across 5 events and 11 rounds of intense action. Hosted at the Biblioteca Municipal de Concepción, the single-day gathering tested precision across every format. In speedcubing disciplines where formats demand absolute consistency across consecutive solves, the cost of a single slip is massive. Without the cushion of throwing out a disastrous solve, every single lockup or mistimed fingertrick directly dictates the final outcome on the leaderboard.

The pressure of flawless execution was especially evident in the big cube categories, where Claudio Matias Cancino Bruna put on a masterclass of control. In 5x5x5 Cube, where long solve times leave no margin for handling errors, Cancino Bruna secured first place with an average of 51.31, also posting the best single of the event at 44.96. Jose Basaes followed in second place with an average of 1:00.63, while Yerko Matias Serrano Cabezas claimed third on the podium with a 1:12.84 average across the 12-competitor bracket.

Cancino Bruna continued his commanding run in the 4x4x4 Cube competition, capturing victory with a rapid 25.80 winning average and a single of 24.03 through two rounds of play. Jose Basaes once again earned the second-place spot by logging an average of 34.47, narrowly outpacing Yerko Matias Serrano Cabezas, who took third with a mark of 34.66. The razor-thin difference between second and third highlighted just how unforgiving any slight misstep can be during high-level speed cubing.

In 3x3x3 One-Handed, Cancino Bruna completed a golden trio of titles by topping the 14-player field with a winning average of 12.17 and a best single solve of 10.88. Jose Basaes took the second step of the podium with a 14.13 average, while Gabriel Alonso Ibáñez Miranda recorded a 16.99 average to secure third place. The discipline requires extreme physical control and dexterity, where one awkward rotation can derail an entire solve.

Away from the top of the podium, several competitors delivered remarkable progress that the simple rankings do not fully capture. Sergio Tirado delivered the biggest leap of the meet, setting a 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 21.92, which was 44.7 percent faster than his previous mark of 39.61 across his 2 events entered. Axel Nicolas Romero Lucero tackled all 5 events, earning a best finish of 6th in 3x3x3 One-Handed while lowering his Pyraminx personal best to 3.27, a 30.1 percent improvement from 4.68, alongside personal bests of 12.42 in 3x3x3 Cube and 19.17 in 3x3x3 One-Handed. Dante Emilio Otarola Morales entered 1 event and dropped his 3x3x3 Cube best to 18.33, an improvement of 25.6 percent from 24.65. Sebastián Ignacio Pino Rojas took on 3 events and improved his 3x3x3 Cube personal best by 19 percent, posting 21.37 compared to his previous 26.38.

First-time event attempts and broad schedules also fueled standout breakthroughs across the roster. Mathias Javier Campos Arias took on 4 events at CubiKonce 2025 and logged his first ever official attempt at Pyraminx with a 9.32, alongside his first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed in 31.45. Jesús Concha contested 5 events and earned 6th place in Pyraminx with a personal best of 5.74, which was 15.3 percent faster than before, plus a 10.7 percent drop to 21.45 in 3x3x3 One-Handed. Marvin Sanhueza competed in 2 events, dropping his 3x3x3 Cube mark by 11.7 percent to 14.26 and his Pyraminx time by 8.3 percent to 14.95. Jorge Alonso Fabián Betancourt Parada completed 5 events, taking 5th in 5x5x5 Cube while improving his personal bests to 21.34 in 3x3x3 One-Handed, 1:03.79 in 5x5x5 Cube, and 9.16 in the standard cube.

The Pyraminx event featured the tightest finish of the entire WCA competition, decided by mere hundredths of a second. Cristóbal Opazo Bravo captured the title with a winning average of 3.57 and a single of 2.90 across two rounds with 20 competitors. Jose Basaes was just one hundredth behind, recording a 3.58 average to secure second place, while José Antonio Gaete took third place with a 3.61 average. The tense contest showcased how tiny pauses instantly shape the podium order.

The flagship 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube event capped the day with three rounds featuring 27 competitors battling for top honours. Jose Basaes secured the championship with a winning average of 6.85, backed by the best single time of the tournament at 5.80. Claudio Matias Cancino Bruna took second place with an average of 7.07, and Gabriel Alonso Ibáñez Miranda took third on the podium with an average of 9.01 in the final round.

With all fifteen podium positions claimed by Chilean solvers, the 3x3 results and multi-event sweeps showed the depth of local talent in the Biobío Region. CubiKonce 2025 offered a thorough test of nerve, dexterity, and consistency, closing out a memorable day of competition at the municipal library.
