Siauw Holds Off Kim-Magierek as Couve Cubing Spring 2024 Delivers Tight FinishesEnglish

A mere thirty-nine hundredths of a second decided the main event at Couve Cubing Spring 2024, capping an intense day of Rubik's Cube action in the Pacific Northwest. Max Siauw captured the 3x3x3 Cube title with a winning average of 6.34 seconds, edging out Asher Kim-Magierek who followed right behind at 6.73 seconds. The tight margins set the tone for a bustling single-day cubing competition that drew 90 competitors to Vancouver, Washington, USA.

Held on March 9, 2024, at the Marshall/Luepke Community Center, the tournament featured five official events spread across 11 competitive rounds. Competitors navigated everything from quick-fire Pyraminx rotations to demanding memory-based blindfolded solves. Speedcubing enthusiasts gathered to test their skills in front of the timers, producing standout moments in both premier and specialist events.

The 3x3 results throughout the three preliminary and final stages showcased blistering pace across the board. Beyond the top duo of Siauw and Kim-Magierek, Ezra Fish secured third place with an 8.29-second average, having also dropped a sharp 6.86 single during the rounds. The best single solve of the entire 88-person field went to Siauw at 5.59 seconds, underscoring the relentless speed required to stay atop the standings.

Pyraminx provided another razor-thin contest where mere fractions determined the champion. Tripp Peters took the gold with an average of 2.46 seconds, narrowly holding off Jack Desloge, who posted a runner-up average of 2.67 seconds. Siauw rounded out the podium in third with a 3.37 average, while Peters also registered the best single solve of the discipline at 1.74 seconds during the two rounds of play.

Away from the top of the podium, Couve Cubing Spring 2024 saw significant milestones and massive personal breakthroughs from competitors across the venue. Scott Nicholson notched an impressive double personal best, cutting his 3x3x3 mark down by 45.7 percent to 11.07 seconds and slicing his 5x5x5 time by 40.4 percent to 2:28.92, while also taking on his first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed with a 1:00.48 solve. Reece Romans tackled three disciplines and recorded a 61.9 percent personal best improvement in One-Handed at 35.35 seconds, alongside a 30.6 percent cut in Pyraminx to 4.25 seconds on the way to a seventh-place finish.
