Alaric Pouchain set the standard in the classic Rubik's Cube with an emphatic 8.37 winning average to cap an action-packed weekend in southwest France. Across August 19–20, 2023, the Salle Polyvalente Hervé de Guerdavid in Couffouleux, France, played host to Couffouleux Open 2023, a vibrant gathering of 72 competitors taking part in 17 rounds of competition across 11 official disciplines. The 3x3 results crowned Pouchain on top of a 69-person field after three fiercely contested rounds, where he closed out the final with a best single solve of 7.94.
The competition timetable launched on Saturday with a punishing schedule of specialized disciplines and blindfolded challenges. Ukraine's Pavlo Bondar immediately made his presence known, demonstrating astonishing versatility across both mechanical puzzles and memory-based events. Bondar captured the 3x3x3 Multi-Blind title by successfully resolving 13 out of 15 puzzles within 53:38, outpacing a field of 18 competitors. In the single-cube blindfold category, Spain's Jordi Lleixà López delivered a stunning 36.39 best single to take the 3x3x3 Blindfolded win, while Tiago Eche conquered the complex 4x4x4 Blindfolded event with a single solve of 2:00.14.
Saturday also showcased large-format puzzles and intricate twisty challenges. France's Adrien Neveu put together a standout performance in the 5x5x5 Cube, averaging 1:13.55 with a fastest solve of 1:05.94 to secure the top step of the podium ahead of Italy's Carolina Guidetti and Pavlo Bondar.
