Matias Ripoll and Matías Ponte Split Titles at Copa Dream Cubing La Pampa 2025English

While the cerebral disciplines of speedcubing like Fewest Moves reward quiet paper-and-pencil analysis over raw turning speed, the weekend at Colegio Secundario 9 de Julio proved that lightning-fast execution remains the ultimate crowd-pleaser. Matias Ripoll delivered the defining performance of the tournament by capturing the 3x3x3 Cube crown with a decisive 9.31 winning average and a best single of 8.32. That display set the tone for an intense slate of action across eight separate events in Santa Rosa, La Pampa, Argentina, where eighteen competitors gathered on July 12 and 13 to contest thirteen rounds of high-stakes solving in 2025.

Across the entire weekend, the battle at the top unfolded as a head-to-head rivalry between Ripoll and Matías Ponte. In the main event, Ripoll edged Ponte, who claimed the runner-up spot on the podium with a 10.15 average, while Lucas Emilio Anzorena Angeleri rounded out the top three with a 12.69 average. The classic 3x3 results showed remarkable poise across three challenging rounds, proving that even without pen-and-paper optimization, calculated precision is vital to staying consistently sub-ten seconds under standard match conditions.

Ripoll reinforced his dominance across multiple categories, picking up additional tournament victories in both the 4x4x4 Cube and 3x3x3 One-Handed events. In the 4x4x4 final, Ripoll secured first place with an average of 39.46, narrowly edging Ponte who finished in 40.38, while Quintín Errea Kozac placed third with 1:11.27. Ripoll also demonstrated exceptional dexterity in the one-handed event, notching a winning average of 17.58 to best Ponte by less than two tenths of a second, as Anzorena Angeleri claimed another podium finish with 32.11.

Not to be outdone, Ponte assembled a massive collection of silverware across the remaining events on the schedule. He claimed top honors in the 2x2x2 Cube with a blistering 3.29 average, holding off Anzorena Angeleri at 4.43 and Ripoll at 4.65. Ponte then took victory in the Pyraminx with an average of 4.81, outperforming Anzorena Angeleri at 8.30 and Errea Kozac at 9.68. His consistency across short-format puzzles underscored the remarkable versatility required at an official WCA competition.

Ponte extended his winning streak into the larger and non-cubic puzzles, capturing first place in the 5x5x5 Cube with a swift 1:09.75 average ahead of Ripoll at 1:37.59. He also took the Megaminx title with a 1:00.01 average, leaving Anzorena Angeleri in second at 1:44.01 and Ripoll in third at 2:25.12. In Square-1, Ponte secured yet another first-place finish with an average of 25.99, besting Ripoll who posted a 27.44 average.
