Brayden Wroten Doubles Up at Colorado Quiet Championship 2024English

Inside the quiet halls of the Highlands Ranch Public Library, the atmosphere was defined by measured focus rather than the rapid clatter of traditional speedcubing. Pencils hovered over notation sheets and blindfolds were adjusted as 14 competitors gathered in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, USA on September 14, 2024. The dedicated single-day cubing competition brought together specialists in memory and analytical efficiency, testing their abilities across four distinct disciplines on the official World Cube Association calendar.

The morning began with 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, a round that demanded patience and rigorous notation. Across the three attempts, Brayden Wroten delivered the standout performance of the event, recording a best single of 26 moves and sealing first place with an average of 31.00 moves. Kristina Lim secured second place with an average of 40.67 moves, helped by a single of 38. Jakub Turczyk of Poland took the third spot on the podium with a 45.67 average, marking one of two international podium finishes on the day in a field otherwise dominated by United States competitors.

Big blindfolded events followed as the schedule moved into the afternoon. In 4x4x4 Blindfolded, precision proved exceptionally difficult across the seven competitors. Raymos Castillo emerged as the sole competitor to secure a successful time, taking the victory with a single of 8:49.68 while the remainder of the field recorded a DNF average. The result underscored how demanding large-cube blindfolded solving remains, where a single miscalculation can dismantle an entire attempt.

The 5x5x5 Blindfolded event presented an even steeper challenge under the library lights. Jason Hammerman navigated the memorisation and execution phases to post a winning single of 19:29.00. Much like the preceding 4x4x4 Blindfolded round, all other six entrants, including William Mitchell, Raymos Castillo, AJ Blair, Luke Meszar, Brayden Wroten, and Preston Hoing, finished with a DNF, leaving Hammerman as the lone solver to log a successful time in the round.

Beyond the top podium steps, several competitors achieved meaningful personal milestones throughout the Colorado Quiet Championship 2024. Rachel Joy Peterson took on 3x3x3 Fewest Moves and secured a 10th-place finish behind a personal best single of 35, which was 32.7 percent faster than her previous personal best of 52. In the same event, Anne Peterson logged her first ever attempt at 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, finishing 14th with a 48. Joshua Aaron Maupin tackled two events, earning 4th place in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves with a 47.67 average and completing his first ever attempt at 3x3x3 Multi-Blind with a successful 2/2 in 18:06.

The depth of the roster at this WCA competition was further reinforced by experienced solvers taking on select challenges. Jackson Warley entered 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, putting up a single of 29 on his way to 7th place. Miles Walcott also focused solely on the Fewest Moves discipline, finishing in 10th place alongside Peterson. These performances added valuable depth to a tight single-day program where every attempt required total concentration.

The competition concluded with 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, where competitors attempted to solve multiple Rubik's Cube puzzles without sight after a single memorisation phase. Brayden Wroten claimed his second victory of the Colorado Quiet Championship 2024 by successfully solving 19 out of 21 cubes in a time of 57:26. Jason Hammerman followed in second place with 14 out of 20 solved in 53:22, while Jakub Turczyk earned third place by finishing 8 out of 9 cubes in 52:21.

With four events completed over four rounds, the Colorado Quiet Championship 2024 wrapped up its run in Highlands Ranch. Across the 3x3 results and complex blindfolded disciplines, the gathering highlighted the analytical side of speed cubing, where methodical planning and memory carry the day as competitors look ahead to the next season on the circuit.
