CMI Tessellate Cube Open 2024

The competitive floor at Chennai Mathematical Institute buzzed with focused energy as timers clicked and puzzle faces aligned in rapid succession. Running from January 26 to January 28, the CMI Tessellate Cube Open 2024 welcomed a vibrant gathering in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, India. A total of 126 competitors arrived ready to test their preparation across 9 events and 17 rounds. Before the final rounds were decided, the weekend was defined by an influx of newer participants taking on official puzzles for the first time alongside seasoned speedcubing veterans.

The classic Rubik's Cube drew the largest crowd of the tournament, with 120 competitors entering the preliminary stage. Across three intense rounds, the standard of solving remained exceptionally high. When the final round wrapped up, Vijay Kishore secured the premier title by posting a winning average of 7.70 seconds, supported by a best single of 6.76. Hari A. Deepak followed closely in second place with an average of 7.88, while Anantha Narayanan Padhuru Madanlal earned third place on the podium with an 8.89 average.

Shorter formats delivered electric moments on the tables. In the 2x2x2 Cube, Mohith B captured first place with an impressive winning average of 2.43 seconds, recording a best single solve of 2.03. Shreyash Boddepalli claimed the runner-up spot with an average of 3.07, while Sundararajan rounded out the podium in third at 3.12. The Pyraminx contest proved equally swift across its three rounds, where Rajha Sirokshan took victory with an average of 3.39 seconds, edging Sai Mrudhun at 3.60 and Mohamed Bilal at 3.85.

Beyond the podium finishes, the real spirit of the WCA competition emerged through individual breakthroughs across the broader field. A V Aditya took on five events and logged a massive 3x3x3 personal best single of 11.85 seconds, improving his prior benchmark of 19.66 by 39.7 percent, while also completing his first ever attempts at 4x4x4 Cube in 1:35.65 and 5x5x5 Cube in 3:27.35. Tatsat Bhagavatula similarly slashed his 3x3x3 personal best from 37.42 to 22.78 seconds, a 39.1 percent jump, while making his first official attempts at 2x2x2 with a 7.37 and 4x4x4 with a 2:53.90. Darshan Napa Madhusudhan reduced his 3x3x3 mark from 18.85 to 12.39 seconds, a 34.3 percent drop, alongside debut attempts in 2x2x2 at 6.11 and Pyraminx at 10.78.

The personal milestones continued across the mid-tier and specialty categories. N Ashwin entered eight events at CMI Tessellate Cube Open 2024, achieving a 16th-place finish in Square-1 where he lowered his personal best from 43.99 to 27.48 seconds, a 37.5 percent improvement, in addition to making his first official attempts at 5x5x5 in 2:06.42 and 3x3x3 Blindfolded in 6:02.05. Surya Hariprasad logged his first runs in Square-1 at 1:35.53 and 5x5x5 at 3:14.15 while trimming his Pyraminx single by 18.9 percent to 7.11. Hareen Jeyavarshan N entered seven events, securing 17th in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves with a debut score of 55, trying 5x5x5 for the first time at 3:19.89, and dropping his 3x3x3 best by 24.1 percent to 15.06.

Big cube specialists found plenty of space to showcase their precision in Chengalpattu. In the 4x4x4 Cube, Atharva Vadeyar claimed top honors with a 38.92-second winning average, holding off Dhruv Thirumalairajan at 39.16 and Sujai Shakthivel at 39.44 in a razor-thin battle. Thirumalairajan had his own golden moment in the 5x5x5 Cube, where his 1:08.54 winning average secured the outright victory ahead of the rest of the 38-competitor field.

Memory and complex manipulation highlighted the technical side of the cubing competition. In 3x3x3 Blindfolded, Hari Anirudh achieved first place with a single solve of 28.63 seconds, finishing ahead of Mohamed Bilal at 59.20 and Sarvesh Saravanan Mylai at 1:33.53. Bilal then dominated the 3x3x3 Multi-Blind event, successfully solving 12 out of 13 cubes in a time of 56:40. Nitheesh Kumar Elangovan placed second with a perfect 4/4 in 35:19, while Sujai Shakthivel earned third with 2/2 in 18:24.

The specialty events rounded out an intense weekend of speed cubing action. In 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, Sundararajan found the most efficient path with a winning count of 27 moves, besting Muhammad Rayyan with 33 and Vijay Kishore with 34. The Square-1 final went to Akin Basu, who posted a winning average of 19.75 seconds to hold off Mohamed Arif at 20.35 and Nishanth Meganathan at 20.73.

Altogether, Indian competitors swept all 27 podium places available across the program, underscoring the remarkable depth present across the state and national scene in 2024. From the definitive 3x3 results to the dozens of first-time event entries logged by rising participants, the CMI Tessellate Cube Open 2024 provided a stage where both elite times and personal growth could flourish.

चेन्गलपट्टू (Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, India) में 26 से 28 जनवरी 2024 तक आयोजित इस स्पीडक्यूबिंग (speedcubing) टूर्नामेंट में 126 खिलाड़ियों ने कुल 9 स्पर्धाओं के 17 राउंड में हिस्सा लिया। सभी 27 पोडियम स्थान भारतीय खिलाड़ियों के नाम रहे। 2x2x2 Cube स्पर्धा में Mohith B (ಮೋಹಿತ್ ಬಿ) ने 2.43 के औसत और 2.03 के सिंगल के साथ खिताबी जीत दर्ज की। इसी स्पर्धा में Shreyash Boddepalli 3.07 के औसत के साथ दूसरे तथा Sundararajan 3.12 के साथ तीसरे स्थान पर रहे।

इस WCA competition में 2x2x2 Cube राउंड्स के दौरान कई उल्लेखनीय टाइमिंग देखने को मिलीं। Sundararajan ने 2.49 का सिंगल और 2.95 का औसत दर्ज किया, जबकि Shreyash Boddepalli ने 2.80 का सिंगल और 3.28 का औसत बनाया। Anantha Narayanan Padhuru Madanlal ने 3.10 का सिंगल व 3.31 का औसत, Mohith B (ಮೋಹಿತ್ ಬಿ) ने 3.04 का सिंगल व 3.58 का औसत, Hari A. Deepak ने 3.05 का सिंगल व 3.73 का औसत और Dhruv Thirumalairajan ने 3.20 का सिंगल व 3.77 का औसत निकाला।

इसी स्पर्धा में R S Sreevathsan ने 3.37 का सिंगल व 3.87 का औसत, Nishanth Meganathan ने 3.66 का सिंगल व 3.94 का औसत, Sai Mrudhun (சாய் மிருதுன்) ने 3.72 का सिंगल व 3.98 का औसत और Sujai Shakthivel ने 3.20 का सिंगल व 4.17 का औसत दर्ज किया। बड़े क्यूब्स की बात करें तो 4x4x4 Cube स्पर्धा में Atharva Vadeyar ने 38.92 के औसत और 31.20 के सिंगल के साथ जीत दर्ज की, जिसमें Dhruv Thirumalairajan 39.16 के साथ दूसरे और Sujai Shakthivel 39.44 के साथ तीसरे स्थान पर रहे।
