Specialists Shine Across Thirteen Events at the Chengdu Spring Open 2025English

The spacious halls of the Tianfu International Conference Center filled with the focused hum of twisting plastic as 227 competitors gathered in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Across February 8 and February 9, the two-day schedule demanded versatility and endurance across 13 events and 26 rounds of intense play. From sprawling big cubes to non-standard mechanical puzzles, the Chengdu Spring Open 2025 showcased the full breadth of the modern cubing competition, drawing both seasoned champions and dedicated multi-event contenders.

While standard cubes often take top billing, the specialist categories set a fiery pace throughout the weekend. The 12-sided Megaminx delivered a masterclass from Ziyu Wu, who claimed the gold medal with a 30.14 winning average and an event-best single of 28.05 across two rounds. On the flat-faced Skewb, Kaixi Guo navigated two rounds of competition to win first place with a 2.17 average, leading Jiawen Liu with 2.52 and Yening Liu with 2.90 on an all-Chinese podium.

The distinctive dial-turning of the Clock event brought another sharp duel to the tables, where Haoxuan Zhang secured victory with a 4.36 average ahead of Guo Yang at 4.57 and Yening Liu at 4.76. In Square-1, a puzzle known for changing shape mid-solve, Jiazhou Li took the title over two rounds with a sharp 6.63 average and a 5.63 best single. Meanwhile, Lingkun Jiang mastered the Pyraminx, taking top honors among 89 competitors with a 1.74 average.

Ziyu Wu proved unstoppable across the heavy-hardware categories throughout the Chengdu Spring Open 2025. In the 5x5x5 Cube, Wu posted a 43.17 average to edge out Ruihang Xu at 43.65 and Chen Chen at 46.39. Wu then doubled down on the largest puzzles, taking the 6x6x6 Cube with a 1:18.92 average ahead of Chongkui Chen at 1:30.83 and Haoxuan Zhu at 1:35.17, followed by a commanding 7x7x7 Cube win in 1:46.60 ahead of Chongkui Chen and Jiman Huang.

Beyond the podium battles, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones in their personal progression. Xiaoshuai Feng delivered the weekend's most dramatic cut in solving time, posting a 4x4x4 Cube personal best of 44.87, which was 53.7 percent faster than a previous mark of 1:37.01, while also tackling initial attempts at Skewb with 6.20 and 3x3x3 One-Handed with 25.91. Le Dai logged a massive 47.9 percent personal best in 3x3x3 One-Handed at 15.81 alongside debut attempts in the 7x7x7 Cube at 3:07.19 and 6x6x6 Cube at 1:53.90.
