Sebastian Weyer Commands the Field Across 18 Rounds at Chelles Open 2025English

106 competitors stepped up to the tables as the competitive schedule unfolded across 18 rounds in Chelles, France. Running from February 15 to February 16, 2025, the Chelles Open 2025 brought nine events to the Théâtre de Chelles stage. With varying progression limits across single-round straight finals and multi-round elimination brackets, the event structure demanded immediate precision from every participant looking to advance through the weekend.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube contest stood out as one of only two disciplines featuring a full three-round progression. In a crowded opening phase featuring 103 starters, competitors had to find top form quickly to secure advancement. Sebastian Weyer set the pace for the weekend by claiming the main event victory, delivering a decisive winning average of 6.86 and a standout best single of 5.54. Nicolas Gertner Kilian of France followed on the podium with a 7.46 average, while fellow French finalist Jules Desjardin secured third place with an 8.08 mark.

The classic Rubik's Cube was not the only arena where the German standout exerted complete control over multi-stage brackets. Across two rounds of 4x4x4 Cube action featuring 73 entrants, Weyer captured the title with a 19.67 average and an 18.71 single, pulling clear of France's Peter Grassard at 30.92 and François-Xavier Kerdelhué at 31.41. In the 54-player 5x5x5 Cube event, another two-round test, Weyer repeated the feat by averaging 45.69 with a 39.58 single to top Grassard at 51.25 and Abdelhak Kaddour at 54.10, cementing a commanding big-cube sweep at the Chelles Open 2025.

Different round designs generated entirely different competitive dynamics throughout the hall. In the Square-1 event, 29 entrants faced a single-round final where every turn carried finality. Lucas Déglise took the win with a 9.38 average, edging Arthur Provot at 9.58 and Anthony Lafourcade at 11.94. The 3x3x3 Blindfolded discipline similarly gave 36 competitors a single-round format, where Victor Chenu won with a single of 1:00.96, prevailing over Gertner Kilian at 1:02.00 and Étienne Aubry at 1:15.77 in a discipline demanding rigorous memorisation without sight.

Beyond the podium battles, the floor of this WCA competition saw dramatic personal leaps from determined solvers. Enzo Hu delivered one of the weekend's biggest breakthroughs in the 4x4x4 Cube, posting a personal best of 54.33 that improved upon his previous best of 2:07.38 by 57.3 percent, while also logging his first ever attempt in 3x3x3 One-Handed with 34.22 and Skewb with 7.17 across five events. Romain Dauguet tackled seven events, logging his first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube in 2:29.31, while trimming his Clock mark by 40.2 percent to 43.92 and improving his Skewb best by 31.6 percent to 5.77. Ragou Radjasandirane contested three disciplines, achieving a best finish of 19th in 3x3x3 Blindfolded on a first attempt of 2:54.72, making a first 3x3x3 One-Handed attempt of 31.00, and cutting 19.2 percent off his 3x3x3 Cube best with a 10.37 mark.

Other dedicated speedcubing competitors used the broad schedule to branch into unfamiliar categories. Souheil Stitou took on five events, registering first career marks in Pyraminx with 7.65, Skewb with 8.52, and 4x4x4 Cube with 1:30.29. Paul Roux also completed five events, putting up initial career attempts of 35.93 in 3x3x3 One-Handed, 8.01 in Skewb, and 1:34.12 in 4x4x4 Cube, highlighting the busy activity across every stage of the schedule.

The speed cubing action remained fierce in the remaining multi-round short-puzzle brackets. In Skewb, where 60 competitors navigated three rounds of play, Anthony Lafourcade captured first place with an average of 2.68 and a single of 2.03, ahead of Hungary's Bence Kiácz at 3.24 and Déglise at 3.56. Jules Desjardin topped the two-round Pyraminx contest among 57 participants, recording a winning average of 3.05 and a best single of 2.26. In Clock, Arthur Provot led a 49-competitor field over two rounds to triumph with a 5.55 average, followed by Lafourcade at 6.77 and Gertner Kilian at 7.05.

In 3x3x3 One-Handed, Nicolas Gertner Kilian led 61 entrants through two rounds to claim victory with an 11.51 average and an 8.98 single, outperforming Jules Créteur at 14.93 and Antoine Quemerais at 16.22. As the final 3x3 results and podium totals were ratified, the Chelles Open 2025 concluded having tested versatility across short sprints, heavy hardware, and blindfolded execution alike.
