Mean-of-Three Precision Defines High Stakes at Chattogram Cube Open 2023English
In the exacting discipline of the 3x3x3 Blindfolded solve, the margin for error is razor-thin because a single mistake over three attempts dismantles any chance at a recorded average. At the Chattogram Cube Open 2023, SM Abeer Ullah mastered that unyielding pressure to secure the title with an average of 1:04.16 and a sharp best single of 57.23 seconds. Competing against a field of 15 solvers who had to balance rapid memorisation with flawless execution, SM Abeer Ullah stayed clean across the board. The performance stood as the defining display of mental endurance across a weekend where precision under strict three-attempt formats dictated the podium.
The competitive action unfolded on September 22 and September 23 at Presidency International School in Chattogram, Bangladesh. Over two intense days, 91 competitors gathered to take part in 12 events spanning 19 rounds of high-grade speedcubing. As the premier WCA competition in the region for the 2023 calendar, the gathering tested athletes across traditional speed challenges, twisty variants, and calculation-heavy events. The domestic talent proved formidable throughout, claiming all 36 available podium positions across the tournament schedule.
The standard 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube championship featured 84 competitors battling across three complete rounds of play. Md Tafsirul Islam rose to the summit in the final round, posting a winning average of 8.95 seconds to capture first place, backed by a best single of 8.21 seconds. Siyam Sadman pushed the pace closely, earning the runner-up spot with an average of 9.08 seconds, while Avirup Das took third place on the podium with a 9.34 average. These 3x3 results capped a fiercely contested main event that drew the largest participation of the entire meet.
Md Tafsirul Islam established himself as the standout competitor of the Chattogram Cube Open 2023 by collecting a total of three event victories. Beyond his premier 3x3x3 triumph, he dominated the 2x2x2 Cube by securing a winning average of 3.23 seconds across two rounds, finishing ahead of Talha Harun at 3.63 and Zuhair Raiyan Khan at 3.69. He then converted his dexterity to the 3x3x3 One-Handed division, defeating 48 other entrants with a 15.19 winning average and a 12.36 single. Arnab Banik took second place with a 16.57 average, and Nazib Nawar claimed third at 17.24.
Mid-sized puzzles and specialized formats created further separation among the leaders. Avirup Das secured double gold by winning the 4x4x4 Cube with a 34.45 average and taking the Skewb final with a 5.55 average. In the 5x5x5 Cube, Arnab Banik delivered an authoritative victory with an average of 1:08.90. The 3x3x3 Fewest Moves contest saw Mosfikul Islam capture the win with a single of 23 moves, edging Talha Harun on 25. Mosfikul Islam also captured the Megaminx title with a 49.84 average. Hosen Mohammed Imran Nikson won Clock in 12.47, Zuhair Raiyan Khan won Square-1 in 15.72, and Afif Zahin Biswas won Pyraminx in 4.46.
Away from the top steps of the podium, the Chattogram Cube Open 2023 offered an arena for substantial personal progression that standard rankings often conceal. Farhan Labib mounted an eleven-event campaign that featured major breakthroughs, lowering their Skewb personal best to 7.18 seconds, which was 41.4 percent faster than their previous mark, alongside a 33.1 percent improvement in the 5x5x5 Cube at 2:16.85 and a 19.4 percent drop in Megaminx to 1:26.84. Yamin Wahed achieved an enormous personal best of 25.60 seconds in Square-1, a 57.5 percent cut from their prior record of 1:00.21, while also improving their Megaminx mark by 11.7 percent to 2:00.66 and securing fifth place. Soyaib Mahmoud made their first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube in 2:14.76 and lowered their Skewb personal best by 26.5 percent to 6.75 seconds to finish seventh. Tahmid UL Islam logged their first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube with a time of 1:17.28 and shaved 25.7 percent off their 2x2x2 Cube personal best down to 6.83 seconds.
New milestones also came from solvers tackling unfamiliar territory and debut appearances in speed cubing. Rakin Sameh Nasir improved their 4x4x4 Cube mark by 41.6 percent to 1:09.72 while registering their first ever attempt at Clock with a 19.10 to take ninth. Khandaker Raad Shahamat entered 10 events, delivering their first ever attempt at Pyraminx with a 12.07 and their first ever attempt at Skewb in 17.60. First-time tournament competitors stepped straight into demanding disciplines, with Muhammad Mushfiqur Salehin recording their first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed in 20.92 seconds and finishing sixth in Square-1, while Md Tanzim Uddin Bhuiyan tackled 10 events in their debut, registering a 45.55 on their first ever attempt at Square-1 and claiming sixth place in Skewb.
The 2023 fixture at Presidency International School closed after 19 rounds of high-intensity solving, proving that execution across every single solve remains paramount. The Chattogram Cube Open 2023 highlighted how fine technical margins shape every division, from blindfolded averages to rapid twisty puzzle rounds. With local athletes asserting total control over the podiums and numerous competitors securing major personal milestones across the schedule, the cubing competition demonstrated the growing depth of talent in Chattogram, Bangladesh as solvers turn their focus toward future seasons.
