Versatility Shines Across Five Events at CBC Capitanejo II 2023English

Five distinct puzzle events tested the limits of solving technique on November 25, 2023, as Colegio Integrado Divino Niño played host to CBC Capitanejo II 2023. A dedicated lineup of 13 competitors took to the tables in Capitanejo, Santander, Colombia, demonstrating their mastery across traditional two-handed puzzles, specialized single-hand manipulation, geometric pyramids, and blindfold problem solving. The packed single-day schedule delivered eight intense rounds that celebrated the full breadth of the modern cubing competition.

Across the multi-discipline lineup, the classic Rubik's Cube sat alongside an array of mechanical challenges, proving that top-level speedcubing demands extraordinary adaptability. Competitors shifted gears from the rapid-fire dexterity needed on the 2x2x2 Cube to the intricate mental mapping required for memory-based events. Every event showcased unique ergonomics and problem-solving rhythms, transforming the venue into an active proving ground for varied twisting puzzles throughout the entire weekend.

In the flagship 3x3x3 Cube contest, Diego Alejandro Casas Jimenez emerged victorious to top the final 3x3 results with an average of 14.22 seconds, backed by a best single solve of 12.06 seconds. Dennis Rosero secured the runner-up spot with an average of 15.19 seconds, while Christopher Sneider Gamboa Garza claimed third place on the podium with a 16.99 mark across two rounds of play. The contest highlighted classic speed cubing fundamentals at their highest execution level.

The 3x3x3 One-Handed event pushed finger dexterity further across a single round of four competitors, where Diego Alejandro Casas Jimenez captured another gold with a 22.06 average and an event-leading 15.66 single. Dennis Rosero took second place with a 30.67 average, and Cristopher Alejandro Rincón Cuadros earned third on the podium with a mark of 1:00.33. Jimenez completed an impressive sweep of the 3x3 variations by winning the 3x3x3 Blindfolded division with a winning single solve of 2:51.14.

The triangular challenge of the Pyraminx saw Dennis Rosero claim the top step of the podium across two rounds, registering a 6.09 winning average and the best single time of the event at 5.48 seconds. Diego Alejandro Casas Jimenez followed in second place with an average of 9.47, while Jayder Yathmi Sanabria Orjuela secured the third spot with a mark of 13.93. The quick, decisive turns of the Pyraminx provided a vivid contrast to the boxier twisty puzzles on the schedule.

Rosero added another victory in the 2x2x2 Cube, leading nine competitors over two rounds to finish with a winning average of 4.42 and a best single solve of 3.26 seconds. Diego Alejandro Casas Jimenez placed second with a 5.86 average, while Jayder Yathmi Sanabria Orjuela claimed third with 7.66. The rapid sequences of the smaller cube pushed turning speeds to the edge, adding to the intense action that marked the full schedule of CBC Capitanejo II 2023.

Beneath the top podium finishes, the deeper value of the WCA competition came from remarkable individual growth and milestones. Danna Isabella Jaimes Coronado entered three events and delivered massive breakthroughs, including a 76.3 percent improvement on the 2x2x2 Cube with a personal best of 4.60 seconds, a Pyraminx personal best of 8.43 seconds that was 48.2 percent faster than her prior mark, a 30.3 percent drop to 24.84 in 3x3x3, and a weekend-best fifth-place Pyraminx finish. Roberth Andres Romero Velasco tackled four events, making his first official attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed with a 51.99 mark to finish fourth, while dropping his Pyraminx best by 30.3 percent to 11.64 and his 3x3x3 best by 18.9 percent to 21.73.

The progress continued with Carlos Santiago Esteban Anaya, who entered two events and completed his first official attempt at Pyraminx with a mark of 17.40 seconds, alongside a 33.9 percent cut to his 3x3x3 Cube personal best at 25.77 seconds. Jose Alejandro Callejas Alvarado concentrated solely on the Pyraminx, producing an outstanding 61.2 percent improvement to set a new personal record of 15.55 seconds. These milestones reflected the personal commitment of competitors challenging their limits across different formats.

With 14 total podium places awarded exclusively to home-nation athletes from Colombia, the gathering served as a proud celebration of community skill and technical variety. CBC Capitanejo II 2023 brought competitors together across diverse disciplines, closing out a rewarding chapter of competition and setting strong personal benchmarks for the regional scene as solvers look ahead to the next season.
