Cavite Speedcubing Open IV 2023 Brings Fast-Paced Formats to ImusEnglish

Nine rounds across seven disciplines set the pace at Robinsons Place Imus, creating a demanding schedule where format structures dictated every podium push. The single-day WCA competition on February 26, 2023, gathered 78 competitors in Imus, Philippines. With six of the seven disciplines contested as direct final rounds, every entrant faced immediate pressure without second chances. Only the signature puzzle featured multiple stages, challenging the field to adapt from sudden single-round shootouts to multi-tiered qualification rounds in Cavite.

The 3x3x3 Cube served as the lone event with advancement stages, winnowing a massive 77-person field through three distinct rounds. Toby Litiatco mastered the three-stage progression to secure victory with a 6.79 winning average and a best single of 6.26. Gabriel Gaza followed in second place with a 7.89 average, while Karl Matthew Angeles took third with an 8.03 mark. The layered format gave finalists opportunities to adjust their timing, producing elite 3x3 results across the afternoon.

Outside the main event, the single-round format ruled the floor, leaving no room for recovery. In the 2x2x2 Cube, 59 competitors had only five solves to make their mark on the leaderboard. Isaiah Benedict S. Feria took the title with a swift 2.36 average and a 1.76 single. Javier Ignacio took the runner-up position at 2.83, while Jansen Alvarez secured third with a 2.93 average. Pyraminx followed the same one-round framework for 35 contenders, where Alvarez topped the standings with a 3.23 average over Justin Andrew Dee at 4.76 and Feria at 5.43.

The mid-sized twisty puzzles saw Inigo Miguel B. Palisoc execute sharp, efficient solutions in back-to-back single-round clashes. Palisoc claimed the 4x4x4 Cube victory with a 29.66 average and a 27.67 single, besting Richmond Mico Rigor at 31.45 and Gabriel Gaza at 34.00. Moving straight to the 5x5x5 Cube, Palisoc struck again with a 53.54 average, while Rigor took second at 55.32 and Cairon Sumadchat collected third place in 1:00.55. The rapid turnarounds in these direct finals rewarded consistency on high-order Rubik's Cube variations.

Big cube events tested stamina across lengthy single-round battles. Richmond Mico Rigor commanded both massive puzzles, earning top honours in the 6x6x6 Cube with a 1:43.35 average ahead of Dale Palmares at 1:46.26 and Palisoc at 1:47.90. Rigor doubled his success in the 7x7x7 Cube, posting a winning average of 2:37.79 in a tight duel against Palmares at 2:38.10 and Louie Jay Quibote at 2:41.00. Across all categories, Philippine competitors swept the podiums in an impressive domestic showing.

Beyond the podium battles, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones across the schedule. Iñigo Zachary Enrile secured a massive 42.7 percent improvement on the Pyraminx with a personal best of 11.17, while also lowering his 4x4x4 Cube best by 10.5 percent to 2:15.36 and his 3x3x3 Cube best by 5.1 percent to 26.77.
