Fresh Ambition and Classic Matchups at C3 Republic Day 2024English
Nineteen competitors gathered at the Temple Tree Beach House for C3 Republic Day 2024, setting the stage for an intense single-day meeting packed with speed and skill. Taking place on January 26, 2024, the gathering brought together dedicated solvers in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, India, for an action-filled series of four rounds across three distinct events. The intimate lineup offered an electric atmosphere where every solve carried immediate weight, delivering high-stakes speedcubing action right from the morning inspection. As timers flickered, the competition highlighted both seasoned regional talent and ambitious competitors testing themselves across multiple disciplines.
The journey into a cubing competition often begins with nervous anticipation, and stepping up to the official timer brings a rush unlike practice at home. For newer entrants, this WCA competition offered an inviting environment to face the official scramble tables and build confidence solve by solve. Handling the classic Rubik's Cube mechanics in a competitive arena requires steady nerves, and the focused setup in Chengalpattu provided just that. Every completed attempt marked a step forward in competitive experience, reminding everyone present that speed cubing thrives on personal growth alongside top-tier podium chases.
A major focus of the day was 3x3x3 One-Handed, a showcase of dexterity requiring solvers to control every move with a single palm and fingers. With nineteen entrants, it stood as the largest event of the day, producing sharp single-handed 3x3 results across the board. Sujai Shakthivel delivered an exceptional performance to capture first place, recording a winning average of 15.82 seconds and setting the single best time of the event at 12.11 seconds. His consistent rhythm kept him clear of the field, establishing the benchmark in one-handed solving for the day.
Chasing the gold in 3x3x3 One-Handed, Nitheesh Kumar Elangovan took second place with an impressive average of 17.43 seconds, bolstered by a strong 13.49 single. Vijay Kishore secured the third step on the podium with an average of 18.68 seconds and a best solve of 15.79 seconds. The depth of the event was evident through the subsequent ranks, as Kishore Kumar finished fourth with an average of 19.22 seconds, Rahul Venkatesan placed fifth at 20.10 seconds, and Imruthun Meenakshisundaram followed in sixth with 21.47 seconds.
Beyond the top podium steps, the heart of the competition emerged through the personal triumphs that the main scorecards often obscure. Anirudh Narasimhan took on two events and delivered a standout moment in Skewb, securing a 10th-place finish with a new personal best average of 13.95 seconds, which was 33.1 percent faster than his prior 20.86 mark. Kishore Kumar entered three events and took on new challenges, logging a first ever official attempt in Skewb of 7.41 seconds and a first ever Clock attempt of 15.01 seconds, while also earning a 4th-place finish in 3x3x3 One-Handed. Sanjay Kumar took on three disciplines and logged a Skewb personal best average of 13.21 seconds, slicing 13 percent off his previous best of 15.19.
That same drive was mirrored across the rest of the field as solvers pushed their limits in every discipline. Mohamed Arif competed in three events, recording a new personal best of 30.40 seconds in Clock and taking 5th place in Skewb. Meanwhile, PK Arumugam brought vast experience across three events, earning a top finish of 7th place in Skewb while also putting up a steady 22.60 average in 3x3x3 One-Handed. These milestone solves demonstrated that every official run provides an opportunity to reset standards and achieve new competitive benchmarks.
The Skewb event brought lightning-fast turns and dramatic finishes across a single round of twelve competitors. Muhammad Rayyan clinched victory with a brilliant 5.86 average, highlighted by a rapid 4.38 single solve. Muhammad Shayan claimed the silver medal by averaging 6.70 seconds, while Rahul Venkatesan secured third place with an 8.28 average, completing an all-India podium sweep in the corner-turning challenge.
Clock solving tested mechanical rhythm across two full rounds, where Mohamed Bilal took command of the pins and dials. Bilal secured first place with a winning average of 9.73 seconds and an event-best single of 8.94 seconds. Sai Mrudhun earned second place with an average of 11.77 seconds, and Rahul Venkatesan picked up his second bronze medal of the day by placing third with a 14.57 average.
As C3 Republic Day 2024 drew to a close, all nine podium placements remained proudly with the home nation. From the calculated single-hand turns to the rapid pace of Clock and Skewb, the single-day competition captured the enduring spirit of competitive solving in Tamil Nadu. The combination of breakout personal bests and composed championship wins gave competitors plenty of momentum to carry forward into the upcoming speedcubing season.
