Controlled Consistency Powers Dominant Displays at C3 Independence Day Open 2023English

Seventeen competitors gathered at Sidharth Manor on August 15, 2023, proving that sustained precision invariably triumphs over isolated burst solving. Across four events and seven total rounds, the C3 Independence Day Open 2023 offered a pure masterclass in speedcubing pacing. In events ranging from big cubes to specialty puzzles, champions emerged not through single fleeting solves, but by stringing together solid, repeatable attempts that withstood pressure from start to finish.

The action in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India centered heavily around the technical discipline of 3x3x3 One-Handed. Running three complete rounds, this test of manual dexterity saw Saseeth Srilok Majeti claim the overall title with a winning average of 12.31 seconds. Majeti, who recorded a best single of 10.03 during the event, held off a competitive Indian podium featuring Sujai Shakthivel in second with 13.86 and Kunaal Parekh in third with 15.53.

While enthusiasts following 3x3 results often look for blazing singles, Majeti built his success on dependable routine across every stage of the WCA competition. Sujai Shakthivel secured second place by delivering reliable one-handed execution, refusing to let any single turn unravel an entire average. Kunaal Parekh rounded out the top three by remaining equally unflappable across five measured attempts in the final round.

Sujai Shakthivel shifted into high gear as the cube dimensions expanded, dominating the big puzzle events with relentless consistency. In the 5x5x5 Cube, which drew 14 competitors for a single high-stakes round, Shakthivel secured the victory with a winning average of 1:10.75 and a best single of 1:05.93. Saseeth Srilok Majeti took second place at 1:19.00, followed closely by Imruthun Meenakshisundaram in third with a time of 1:20.04.

Shakthivel carried that exact discipline directly into the 6x6x6 Cube, navigating two rounds across a field of 13 entrants to capture another gold. He locked down the win with a sub-two-minute average of 1:59.84, backed by a best single of 1:56.44. Imruthun Meenakshisundaram took the silver medal with a 2:43.12 average, while Kunaal Parekh claimed the bronze with a 3:07.00 average, reinforcing how crucial steady pacing is on larger Rubik's Cube variations.

Away from the podium battles, significant milestones highlighted the depth of the field during the gathering. Prashanth Swaminathan took on four separate events, lowering his 3x3x3 One-Handed personal best to 17.21, an improvement of 35.2 percent over his previous mark of 26.54, while trimming his 5x5x5 Cube mark by 23.7 percent down to 1:30.70 and registering a first ever attempt in Square-1 at 25.78 to finish fourth in 5x5x5. Ashvand Sathyajith entered three events, cutting his 5x5x5 Cube best to 1:07.81, which was 18.9 percent faster than his prior 1:23.63 standard, and secured a sixth-place finish in 6x6x6 Cube.

Vidyuth Rengarajan tackled three events at the cubing competition, logging a first ever attempt in 5x5x5 Cube of 2:21.43 to place 13th, while improving his 6x6x6 Cube best by 7.1 percent to 6:37.85 and his one-handed mark by 4.7 percent to 46.86. Magesh Siva contested two events, completing a first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube in 3:24.21 to rank 14th. PK Arumugam brought vast experience across three events, earning an eighth-place finish in 5x5x5 Cube with a personal best of 1:39.96.

The Square-1 tournament concluded the competitive program with technical precision across a single round of seven solvers. Saisabari Ramesh of the USA delivered the winning performance, averaging 15.49 seconds with a best single of 10.42. Akin Basu claimed second place for India with an average of 19.81, while Kunaal Parekh collected his third medal of the day by taking third place with a 21.91 average.

The single-day meet concluded with India claiming 11 of the 12 available podium positions alongside one medal for the USA. As speed cubing continues to evolve across southern India, the C3 Independence Day Open 2023 demonstrated that composure under pressure remains the deciding factor on the tournament floor, setting a high standard of steady excellence as athletes look toward the next season.
