Thirty-one competitors took their seats for the 7x7x7 Cube at Bucharest Smart Summer Cubing 2025, embarking on the most grueling test of stamina on the schedule. Held across July 12 and July 13 at the Scoala Nationala de Studii Politice si Administrative in Bucuresti, Romania, the WCA competition brought together 87 competitors across 11 events and 20 rounds. Big cubes demand immense physical and mental focus, where center building, edge pairing, and the final 3x3 stage turn into a sustained battle against fatigue.
János Bereczki delivered a masterclass in the heavy puzzles, securing a dominant sweep of the biggest hardware. In the 7x7x7 Cube final, Bereczki locked down first place with an average of 2:08.50, highlighted by a single solve of 2:02.50. Twan Dullemond of the Netherlands followed in second place with an average of 2:48.31, while Martin Fronescu earned third place with a 2:53.89 mark. Bereczki carried that same rhythm straight into the 6x6x6 Cube, winning the event with an average of 1:31.35 ahead of Dullemond at 1:43.61 and Italy's Giacomo Daniele Corò at 1:49.82.
The 5x5x5 Cube contest was an equally gripping display of big-cube speedcubing. Dullemond climbed to the top of the podium with a winning average of 45.49 and a best single of 42.71. Bereczki applied pressure throughout the single-round contest to finish second with a 47.52 average, while Corò claimed his second big-cube podium of the weekend by taking third in 52.76. Dullemond added another title on the 4x4x4 Cube, posting a 25.21 average to edge Bereczki at 26.94 and Ianis Costin Chele at 28.49.
Beyond the complex layers of the large puzzles, the classic Rubik's Cube drew a massive field of 84 solvers across three competitive rounds. Ianis Costin Chele took top honors in the event, logging a winning average of 6.32 alongside the fastest single solve of the weekend at 4.49. The 3x3 results underscored Chele's versatility, as he went on to capture first place in three other disciplines. He won the Pyraminx with a 2.45 average, topped the 3x3x3 One-Handed event in 9.29, and secured the Skewb title with an average of 4.02.
