Bucharest Funky Warm Up 2024 Delivers Sharp Time Drops and Triple Crown in RomaniaEnglish
Twenty-three competitors gathered in Bucuresti, Romania on August 3, 2024, for a packed single-day programme featuring four events across nine competitive rounds. Staged at Colegiul Tehnologic Viaceslav Harnaj, Bucharest Funky Warm Up 2024 served as a high-intensity showcase for regional speedcubing talent. While the timetable bypassed standard 3x3 results in favour of side puzzles and specialised formats, the day delivered exceptional execution. Across every discipline, solvers demonstrated significant personal growth, rewriting their individual bests alongside intense podium battles.
The multi-event masterclass of the competition belonged to Ianis Costin Chele, who swept three of the four titles on offer. Chele set the tone in 3x3x3 One-Handed, an event demanding precise dexterity derived from classic Rubik's Cube mechanics. Navigating three separate rounds, he secured victory with a final winning average of 10.22 seconds, backed by a best single of 8.88. Throughout the event, Chele also posted results of an 8.46 single and a 9.82 average, standing at the summit of a 22-competitor bracket.
Chele maintained that dominance across the other twisty disciplines at Bucharest Funky Warm Up 2024. In Megaminx, he topped an 18-person roster with a winning average of 39.59 seconds and a standout single of 33.69, finishing comfortably ahead of the chasing pack. He completed his triple title sweep in Square-1, conquering two rounds of 15 solvers with a decisive 10.76 average and an 8.25 single. His versatility across dodecahedral and shape-shifting mechanisms highlighted an extraordinary display of technical command.
Behind Chele, the podium races remained fiercely contested. In 3x3x3 One-Handed, Serban Stelian took second place with an average of 13.15 seconds, followed by Mihail Stoicescu in third at 15.08. Stelian returned to the podium in Megaminx, securing silver with a 54.42 average, just edging Dragoş Mihai Cadariu who captured third place with 54.73. Square-1 saw Stoicescu claim the runner-up spot with a 14.14 average, while Christofor Gabriel Costea earned third place on a mark of 16.56.
The sole event to escape Chele's grasp was Clock, where 23 competitors tackled two fast-paced rounds. Victor Anton Stoica claimed gold with a winning average of 5.77 seconds, also locking in the best single of the entire event at 5.16 seconds. Radu Andrei Andrieș pressured Stoica closely to take second place with a 5.94 average, while Chele rounded out his full medal set by securing third place on a 6.17 average. The tight margins underlined the intense calibration required on the dual-faced circular puzzle.
Beyond the title fights, this cubing competition revealed dramatic leaps in execution for several dedicated competitors. Petre Emilian produced massive breakthroughs across three events, logging a Megaminx personal best of 1:45.58 to drop 32.1 percent off his prior mark, an 18.5 percent improvement in Clock with a 6.03 personal best for a 5th place finish, and a 25.92 single in 3x3x3 One-Handed. Ramy Ștefan Taleb entered four events and cut his Square-1 personal best by 30.9 percent to 21.42, alongside a 1:39.16 Megaminx personal best, a 10.22 Clock personal best, and a 10th-place finish.
Progress continued throughout the roster with competitors tackling fresh challenges and sharper times. Matei Corjos took on four events, securing 9th in Square-1 while slashing his personal best by 25.7 percent to 16.72 seconds. Chirilă Lucas Mihai achieved a 22 percent cut to reach a 34.84 personal best in 3x3x3 One-Handed, a 13.80 personal best in Clock, and a 17th-place finish. Cezar-Mihail Rotaru entered his first ever attempt at Clock with an 11.46 to finish 15th, while improving his one-handed best to 49.34. Niculae Filip Rareș also registered a first ever attempt at Clock with 26.48 and set a Square-1 personal best of 49.70.
The day was equally defined by deep fields setting personal marks in the one-handed discipline. Romanian competitors including Serban Stelian, Mihail Stoicescu, Mihnea Andrei Panţu, Radu Andrei Andrieș, Christofor Gabriel Costea, Dragoş Mihai Cadariu, Radu Mihai Stan, Andrei Răzvan Ionel, and Mihai Căpăţinescu all registered strong times across the rounds, locking in all twelve podium placements for the host nation.
By the conclusion of Bucharest Funky Warm Up 2024, the one-day gathering at Colegiul Tehnologic Viaceslav Harnaj had demonstrated the vibrancy of speed cubing in the region. With four different puzzles tested to their limits, competitors celebrated both historic individual breakthroughs and sharp podium finishes. The impressive standard set across Bucuresti signals that this community will enter any upcoming WCA competition season operating at full momentum.
Bucharest Funky Warm Up 2024 aduce dueluri intense la probele complexeRomână
