New Talents Rise at Bucharest Cubing February A 2024English
The competition hall at Colegiul Tehnologic Viaceslav Harnaj bustled with activity as 37 speedcubers gathered in Bucuresti, Romania on February 17, 2024. Stacks of practice mats lay ready while timers stood reset across the competition floor. Throughout the morning, competitors inspected scrambled puzzles, adjusted tensions, and lined up for their staging calls. A notable portion of the roster arrived to make their first official marks, giving the one-day gathering a distinct atmosphere of fresh beginnings alongside experienced contenders. Across 10 rounds of play, the tournament showcased the vitality of regional speedcubing.
The main attraction of any WCA competition remains the classic 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube, which brought together 36 competitors through three intense rounds. Andrei-Traian Răduț asserted control over the bracket with rapid execution and steady pacing. Răduț secured the gold medal with a winning average of 9.22 seconds, backed by a tournament-best single solve of 8.17 seconds. Adrian Teodor Facere claimed second place on the podium with an 11.75 average, while Matei Florea took the bronze position with an average of 12.09 seconds. The final 3x3 results confirmed the high level of execution at the top of the field.
In the 2x2x2 Cube event, Matei Florea captured the championship title following a blistering two-round contest featuring 35 competitors. Florea registered a winning average of 2.81 seconds in the finals, while also recording a best single solve of 2.53 seconds earlier in the event. Bulgaria's Ivaylo Rangelov Kirilov delivered a strong performance to take second place with a 3.33 average. Radu Mihai Stan rounded out the podium in third with an average of 3.70 seconds. Across both rounds of play, numerous competitors registered standout single and average times on the smaller mechanical puzzle.
The pyramid-shaped Pyraminx puzzle drew a field of 28 entrants across two competitive stages. Testing memory and concentration, the 5x5x5 Blindfolded event presented the most demanding challenge of the day. Alexandru Ignat claimed first place among the three entrants with a winning single time of 24:25.00, achieving a successful solve while his opponents encountered difficulties. Vasile Dan secured second place with a completed attempt of 35:49.00, while Andrei Răzvan Ionel finished third.
