Ianis Costin Chele Sweeps Speed Events at Bucharest Cubing December 2025English

A blistering 1.15 single and a 1.26 winning average in the 2x2x2 Cube set the tempo for an extraordinary day of competitive solving in Bucuresti, Romania. Ianis Costin Chele captured the top step of the podium in three separate speed events, showcasing supreme execution and rapid finger dexterity across the board. The one-day gathering on December 13, 2025, brought together 34 competitors at Colegiul Tehnologic Viaceslav Harnaj, staging 11 rounds across 6 diverse events in a packed schedule sanctioned by the World Cube Association.

While high-speed turning defined the opening sessions, the lineup offered a sharp contrast between rapid-fire execution and the deliberate, analytical concentration required by blindfolded formats. Speed events demand immediate pattern recognition and mechanical speed, whereas memory-heavy events challenge participants to map out the entire puzzle before donning a blindfold. That broad spectrum of disciplines gave Bucharest Cubing December 2025 a distinct character, testing both pure turning pace and deep structural calculation under the strict pressure of the official clock.

In the flagship Rubik's Cube category, Ianis Costin Chele demonstrated remarkable consistency to take first place with a 6.63 winning average, highlighted by a sharp 5.71 best single across 3 rounds of play. Finland's Antto Pitkänen earned second place with a 7.59 average, while Serban Stelian secured third place for the host nation with a 7.84 mark. The final 3x3 results capped a dominant showing in speedcubing for Chele, who maintained control through each stage of the 34-competitor field.

Chele also secured victories in the other two standard speed disciplines on the schedule. In 3x3x3 One-Handed, Chele took the title with a 9.05 winning average and an 8.31 single across two rounds, finishing ahead of Pitkänen with 13.63 and Stelian with 13.86. In the 2x2x2 Cube final, Chele led the 32-player field with his 1.26 average, as Pitkänen took second place at 2.07 and Radu Mihai Stan placed third with 2.52. The performance marked a complete sweep of the non-blindfolded roster.

Away from the top of the podium, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones across the day. Bogdan Petru Negru delivered the largest leap of the weekend in the 3x3x3 Cube, recording a personal best of 10.15 that was 36.5 percent faster than his previous standard, while also dropping his 3x3x3 One-Handed mark to 33.25 for a 22.1 percent improvement across three events entered. Matei Tataru registered a 5.98 personal best in the 2x2x2 Cube, trimming 32.1 percent off his prior benchmark, alongside a 22.40 result in the main event. Alexandru Vlad Spătaru took on two disciplines and produced a 33.75 personal best in the 3x3x3 Cube, an improvement of 30.3 percent.

First attempts at new disciplines also highlighted the depth of the field throughout the tournament. Darius Patrick Oprea took on three events, posting a first ever attempt in 3x3x3 One-Handed of 2:32.14, while cutting his 2x2x2 Cube mark by 28.1 percent to 9.78 and his 3x3x3 Cube best by 18.7 percent to 38.19. Victor Bunescu improved his 2x2x2 Cube best to 7.53, an advance of 27 percent, while lowering his 3x3x3 Cube mark by 21 percent to 27.22. Ghita Caleb Lucian logged a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed in 48.80, posted a 24.89 personal best in the 3x3x3 Cube that was 26.9 percent faster, and achieved a 23rd-place finish in 2x2x2 Cube. Petar Žikić of Serbia tackled four events, completing a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 Blindfolded in 4:36.44 and earning an 18th-place finish in one-handed play.

The memory events delivered intense drama across the venue floor as competitors tackled cubes without visual feedback. Thodoris Iatrou of Greece achieved a double blindfolded triumph, capturing the 3x3x3 Blindfolded title with a 34.19 winning average and a 28.18 single, finishing ahead of Stelian at 35.28 and Nikos Kolovos at 1:03.59. Iatrou also claimed top honors in the 4x4x4 Blindfolded event with a 5:00.72 single, edging Italy's Gabriele Bacchieri, who finished second in 5:11.06, and Israel's Tuval Stone, who took third in 6:56.60.

In the complex 5x5x5 Blindfolded competition, Gabriele Bacchieri secured victory with a 7:45.62 single, overcoming a field of nine competitors where only two successful times were recorded. Iatrou followed in second place with a time of 16:34.00 to complete another podium finish. Across all disciplines, host nation Romania collected 9 podium positions, followed by Greece with 6, Finland with 3, Italy and Israel with 2 each, and Poland with 1.

With 11 rounds completed in a single action-packed day of speed cubing, Bucharest Cubing December 2025 demonstrated the high technical standard present in the Romanian community. The WCA competition brought together specialist solvers and rising competitors alike in Bucuresti, balancing high-speed turns with deep calculation. As the 2025 calendar draws to a close, this cubing competition provided a compelling showcase of competitive range and personal progress across every round.
