Daniel Wallin Doubles Up at Bromma Open 2024 as Emerging Solvers SurgeEnglish

Daniel Wallin set the benchmark at Ålstensskolan on June 5, 2024, capturing the 3x3x3 Cube title with a decisive 8.10 winning average and a round-best 6.90 single. The performance anchored a fast-paced single-day WCA competition in Bromma, Sweden, where 40 competitors gathered across four events and six rounds of action. With domestic contenders trading top positions all afternoon, Wallin emerged as the most consistent finisher, claiming gold in two disciplines while testing himself against a rising generation of talent.

The 3x3 results formed the centerpiece of the program, bringing together every registered entrant in a 40-person opening round before narrowing to the finals. Helmer Ewert and Ludwig Ivarsson pushed Wallin through the closing solves, both posting matching averages of 8.91 seconds to round out the podium. The narrow separation highlighted the intense level of speedcubing at the top of the Swedish circuit, where small missteps in turn efficiency separated the medalists in the classic Rubik's Cube category.

Wallin picked up his second victory of the day in Pyraminx, leading a 35-competitor field with an average of 3.74 seconds alongside a best single of 2.97. Vanessa Tyszkiewicz secured the silver medal with a 4.75 average, edging Ludwig Ivarsson, who earned his second podium of the meet by taking third in 4.83. The pyramid puzzle demanded lightning-fast inspection and tip execution, giving Wallin another clean sweep of the single and average times in the single-round format.

The 2x2x2 Cube event saw Ludwig Ivarsson turn the tables to capture top honours among 36 entrants. Ivarsson recorded a winning average of 2.67 seconds and logged the fastest single of the entire event at 1.67. Helmer Ewert maintained his multi-event presence with a second-place average of 2.84, while Erland Flodman claimed the bronze step in 2.99. The two rounds of 2x2x2 were packed with swift rotations, producing narrow margins where tenths of a second decided podium placements.

Beyond the battle for silverware, the heart of Bromma Open 2024 was defined by rapid personal development from emerging solvers across the floor. Alexander Hammarbäck delivered one of the steepest leaps of the day, cutting his 2x2x2 Cube personal best down to 2.33 seconds, an improvement of 45.7 percent, while also dropping his 3x3x3 Cube mark to 15.79 seconds and placing 18th in Pyraminx across four events entered. Samuel Johannisson Mählqvist trimmed his Pyraminx best by 36.1 percent to 9.80 seconds and shaved 17.5 percent off his 2x2x2 Cube mark with a 9.08. Alfred Södergren took on three events, taking his first ever attempt at Pyraminx to finish 17th with a 10.10, alongside a 34.8 percent reduction in his 2x2x2 Cube best to 6.20 and a 22.4 percent gain in 3x3x3 Cube with 19.45. Eddie Eklund entered three disciplines, making a first ever attempt at Skewb with a 6.53 to earn ninth place, while bettering his 3x3x3 Cube best by 15.3 percent to 14.49 and Pyraminx by 10 percent to 5.70.

That rapid growth continued across several other entries tackling new formats and sharp personal drops. Erik Tappert Thurdin logged a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube of 6.47 and a first Pyraminx solve of 8.77 for a best finish of 26th, while improving his 3x3x3 Cube time by 22.3 percent to 24.01 seconds. Augustin Ringberg Swahn registered a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube with a 14.82, lowered his Pyraminx record by 29 percent to 10.65 for a 22nd-place finish, and improved his 3x3x3 Cube mark by 11 percent to 32.68. Henning Herrström competed across four events, logging a first Pyraminx solve of 13.82, cutting his Skewb best by 20.8 percent to 15.98 for 25th place, and improving his 3x3x3 Cube mark by 6.1 percent to 32.37. Bill Burman rounded out the impressive breakthroughs with a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube of 12.92, dropping his 3x3x3 Cube time by 14.1 percent to 28.79 and Pyraminx by 9.8 percent to 11.21.

The Skewb tournament delivered a standout win for Helmer Ewert, who averaged 4.09 seconds to take first place out of 26 competitors, backed by the best single of the event at 2.71. Daniel Wallin secured second place with an average of 4.51 seconds, while Leo Lindqvist claimed third in 5.43. Ewert's victory completed a remarkably balanced showing across multiple formats, earning him medals in three distinct disciplines throughout the competition schedule.

When the final timers were stopped at Ålstensskolan, all 12 podium positions across the four events belonged to Swedish competitors. The efficient one-day schedule delivered intense speed cubing action from start to finish, demonstrating the depth of local talent in the Stockholm region. As the 2024 season moves forward, Bromma Open 2024 stands as a clear showcase of elite consistency at the top and accelerated development throughout the ranks of this thriving cubing competition community.
