International Talent and Rising Solvers Converge at Bobcat Battle Newcomers 2024English

The gymnasium at Bob Miller Middle School hummed with focused energy as timers clicked and puzzle faces snapped into place. Solvers, families, and organizers gathered across rows of competition tables, filling the room with the distinct rhythm of turning plastic. From local Nevada neighborhoods to across international borders, participants made the journey to Henderson, Nevada, USA on March 23, 2024, bringing together seasoned contenders and eager first-timers under one roof for a packed day of official speedcubing.

Travel defined the character of the gathering, drawing participants who crossed continents to test their skills alongside regional talent. Germany was represented on the podium alongside a strong domestic contingent from the USA, highlighting how far competitors will go for a premier cubing competition. With 113 competitors registered across five events and ten rounds of action, the single-day meet proved that distance is no barrier when a community gathers around the classic Rubik's Cube.

The main event delivered exceptional speed cubing drama across three full rounds of solving. Danny Sungin Park captured top honors in the 3x3x3 Cube, posting a winning average of 6.01 seconds and recording the best single of the event at 5.66 seconds. Philipp Weyer secured second place with an average of 6.83 seconds, while Michael Larsen completed the podium in third with an 8.93 average. The deep field of 111 entrants in the event produced remarkable 3x3 results from the opening phase to the final.

Philipp Weyer claimed victory in 3x3x3 One-Handed, navigating two competitive rounds to finish with a winning average of 13.02 seconds and a best single of 10.77. Danny Sungin Park followed closely behind in second place with a 13.97 average, while Michael Larsen earned another medal by taking third place with a mark of 15.55 seconds. The one-handed discipline required immense dexterity and control, separating the top tier of solvers over the course of thirty-eight attempts.

Michael Larsen put together a dominant showing across specialty events, capturing two first-place finishes during the meet. In Pyraminx, Larsen topped a field of 68 competitors with a winning average of 4.60 seconds, holding off Jaden Thompson who took second at 4.72 and Bobby Mundo in third at 5.14. Larsen also took the title in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, where solving without sight demands flawless memorization and spatial execution, securing first place with a single of 1:50.94 ahead of Danny Sungin Park at 1:51.84 and Jaden Thompson at 2:26.94.

The short-format 2x2x2 Cube event saw some of the tightest margins of the entire day across two rounds. Elijah Poma took the victory with a 3.04 average, edging past Kevin Acevedo who registered a 3.05 average in second place, while Vincent Benites rounded out the podium in third with 3.14.
