Memory and Speed Converge at Blind and Fun Landvetter Summer 2024English
Inside the halls of Landvetter Kulturhus, the atmosphere shifted continuously between intense stillness and frantic turning. Tables were arrayed with timers and blindfolds as 40 competitors gathered for a specialized day of puzzles on August 18, 2024. Long periods of quiet analysis gave way to bursts of turning, showing how mental discipline shapes high-level solving. The single-day WCA competition brought together athletes from multiple nations to test their memory, spatial reasoning, and raw execution in Landvetter, Sweden.
The distinctive schedule at Blind and Fun Landvetter Summer 2024 featured nine disciplines across ten rounds, providing a balanced showcase of both traditional Rubik's Cube speed and deep analytical solving. While traditional speedcubing demands rapid reactions and fingertwists, longer blindfolded events require competitors to sit in total silence, committing entire scrambles to memory before donning their blindfolds. That contrast between quiet planning and pure speed cubing defined the character of the entire meeting in Landvetter.
In the main speed discipline, the classic 3x3 results were highlighted by France's Clément Cherblanc, who claimed top honours with a winning average of 8.85 seconds, featuring a best single solve of 7.29 seconds among 36 competitors. Eskil Munthe of Sweden took second place with an average of 9.34 seconds, while Fabian Lönnkvist of Sweden secured third place with a 9.46-second mark. The single-round 3x3x3 Cube battle brought sharp execution from the start to the finish of the final solves.
Blindfolded events formed a major pillar of the tournament program, featuring dramatic tests across several cube sizes. In the 3x3x3 Blindfolded event, Canada's Igor Pertoso Lazdan captured victory across two rounds with a sharp best single time of 34.57 seconds. Viktor Zenk of Sweden earned the title in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind by successfully solving 16 of 18 cubes within 59:57, finishing ahead of Igor Pertoso Lazdan's 19 of 25 in 54:00 and Eskil Munthe's clean 11 of 11 in 49:22.
The larger blindfolded challenges saw Eskil Munthe take the win in 4x4x4 Blindfolded with a single time of 4:09.47, leading Canada's Igor Pertoso Lazdan at 5:02.53 and Viktor Zenk at 8:16.17. In the grueling 5x5x5 Blindfolded discipline, Sweden's Lage Bonde secured first place with a single time of 13:25.00, edging out Eskil Munthe who registered a time of 13:35.00 in the five-person field.
Beyond the podiums, the cubing competition served as a stage for remarkable personal breakthroughs across the board. William Bogdanovic tackled five events and delivered massive progress, slicing his Clock personal best down to 14.53 seconds, which was 54.6 percent faster than his prior mark, alongside a Skewb best of 6.98 seconds and a 2x2x2 best of 4.03 seconds. Ludvig Asterholm cut his Clock best down by 49.5 percent to 12.30 seconds and set a Skewb personal record of 10.08 seconds. Samanyu Maddarhalli took on three events, dropping his 2x2x2 best to 6.97 seconds, an improvement of 40.9 percent, and his 3x3x3 mark to 39.81 seconds. Noah Lucas Engel improved his 2x2x2 personal best by 40.8 percent to 2.25 seconds while also logging personal records in Pyraminx at 7.78 seconds and 3x3x3 at 17.81 seconds.
Progress continued throughout the roster as Vilmer Norrman entered four events, posting a 2x2x2 best of 5.78 seconds that was 37.1 percent faster than before, as well as a 29.93-second 3x3x3 best and a 10.19-second Pyraminx mark. Kristian Nilsson took on his first ever attempt at Pyraminx, logging a time of 34.62 seconds, and dropped his 2x2x2 personal best by 25.6 percent to 33.79 seconds. Albin Berntsson competed in seven events, reaching sixth place in 3x3x3 while setting personal records of 3.22 seconds in Pyraminx and 1:14.48 in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, the latter being 13.1 percent faster than his previous best.
