Memory Masters Deliver Thrilling Solves at BL&D BLD Binningen 2026English

The Bürgersaal Binningen hall fell into deep, focused silence as competitors adjusted their blindfolds and visualized spatial sequences in their minds. Running on February 28, 2026, the venue in Binningen (BL), Switzerland hosted a dedicated gathering of memory specialists. Solvers sat completely still during inspection, tracing the scrambled faces of each Rubik's Cube before racing through moves without sight. With 27 competitors contesting four specialized blindfolded events across eight rounds, the atmosphere blended razor-sharp concentration with technical execution.

A major theme of BL&D BLD Binningen 2026 was the sheer number of solvers stepping up to new challenges across the schedule. The demanding nature of blindfolded speedcubing requires extensive memorisation routines, and many participants tackled higher-order puzzles without sight for the first time. For a specialized cubing competition, the field brought plenty of ambitious attempts across the multi-round schedule. The single-day WCA competition showcased both veteran international podium contenders and solvers testing their memory limits across large batches of cubes.

The 3x3x3 Blindfolded event featured 27 competitors and three rounds of fierce action, producing some of the sharpest 3x3 results of the weekend. Jens Haber of Germany secured the championship victory by recording a winning average of 18.53 seconds in the final, complemented by a tournament-best single of 16.81 seconds. Switzerland's Ezra Hirschi claimed second place with a single of 18.16, having earlier set a Swiss national record single of 18.08 seconds during the competition. Ryan Eckersley of the United Kingdom completed the podium in third place with a time of 31.65 seconds.

The big blind events witnessed phenomenal precision from Ryan Eckersley, who dominated both the 4x4x4 Blindfolded and 5x5x5 Blindfolded disciplines. In 4x4x4 Blindfolded, Eckersley took the top podium step with a winning average of 1:41.17 and a best single of 1:25.20 among 21 competitors, besting Ezra Hirschi who finished second in 1:36.01 and Flurin König in third at 4:21.68. Eckersley then doubled his gold tally in 5x5x5 Blindfolded, capturing first place with a single of 2:58.99 across 20 competitors, ahead of Hirschi in second at 3:28.85 and Gabriele Bacchieri of Italy in third with 10:28.00.

Beyond the top podium steps, several solvers delivered career-defining personal breakthroughs across demanding events. Cyrill Speiser of Switzerland entered four events and delivered a massive leap in 5x5x5 Blindfolded, setting a personal best of 10:55.00 to finish fifth, cutting his previous mark of 19:42.00 by 44.6 percent, alongside a 15.9 percent improvement in 3x3x3 Blindfolded to 39.59 seconds. Michał Kaczmarek of Poland also excelled across four events, logging a 4x4x4 Blindfolded personal best of 12:06.00 which was 17.1 percent faster than his previous 14:36.00 mark, while also earning 15th place in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind with a personal best of 7/8 in 52:37.

Other competitors marked significant milestones in their competitive journeys at BL&D BLD Binningen 2026. Théo Meyer-Dumoulin of France contested four events, attempting 4x4x4 Blindfolded for the first time in competition with a time of 22:31.00 and recording a 3x3x3 Multi-Blind personal best of 5/7 in 1:00:00 to finish 19th. Daniel Marcelino of France entered three events and earned 14th place in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind with a personal best of 10/12 in 1:00:00. Christophe Grosjean took on three events and secured 20th in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, while Léon Antonio Darwin Mangiola contested three events and finished 21st in the same discipline.

The 3x3x3 Multi-Blind contest served as a supreme test of endurance, involving 22 competitors attempting dozens of cubes under strict time limits. Ezra Hirschi delivered a masterclass for Switzerland, solving an astonishing 36 out of 50 cubes in exactly 1:00:00 to take first place. Jonathan Dammann of France captured second place by successfully resolving 20 out of 22 cubes in 46:15. Willem Klose of Germany took third on the podium, registering 22 solved cubes out of 28 attempts in a time of 59:53.

When the final blindfolds came off at BL&D BLD Binningen 2026, the host nation celebrated a successful day of speed cubing with five podium finishes, followed by three for the United Kingdom, two for Germany, and one each for France and Italy. From stunning national records to bold debut attempts on larger puzzles, the single-day gathering in Binningen highlighted the deep focus and growing talent pool within the European blindfolded community.
