Big and Blind Samobor 2025 Highlights Breakthroughs Across Complex EventsEnglish

Centar za mlade Bunker filled with focused quiet as competitors prepared for a weekend dedicated to the heaviest formats in the sport. Rows of long tables held stacked puzzles and sight-blocking blindfolds across two demanding days in Samobor, Croatia. Over July 5 and July 6, the venue hosted Big and Blind Samobor 2025, bringing together 23 competitors ready to tackle 9 events and 13 rounds of intense puzzle solving. The atmosphere carried an undeniable energy as solvers stepped up for experimental attempts and technical showcases in a specialized environment.

For many participants, stepping onto the floor meant tackling entirely fresh formats at an official WCA competition. The technical nature of big cubes and memory disciplines made the weekend a proving ground for competitors expanding their repertoires. Across every table, solvers took on the Rubik's Cube variants that demand intense endurance and calculation. That drive was visible from the earliest morning rounds to the final blindfolded attempts of 2025, giving speedcubing fans in the region plenty to follow.

Slovenia's Oskar Vidiček turned in a commanding sweep across the big cubes and Megaminx. In the 5x5x5 Cube, Vidiček claimed the top spot with a winning average of 53.02 and a best single of 48.22 over two rounds, finishing ahead of David Vujasić of Croatia at 58.74 and Szabolcs Szántai of Hungary at 1:00.16. Vidiček continued his control in the 6x6x6 Cube, taking the win with a 1:57.08 average in a tight contest against Vujasić, who averaged 1:57.72, and Szántai at 1:59.02. His dominant form carried directly into the 7x7x7 Cube, where his 2:45.50 average led Aleksa Radovanović of Serbia and Szántai.

Vidiček completed his four-title haul by winning Megaminx with an average of 40.86 and a single of 35.43, besting Matic Omulec of Slovenia and Szántai. Meanwhile, 3x3x3 Fewest Moves tested the analytical side of speed cubing, where Szabolcs Szántai claimed victory with a remarkable 22.67 mean and a best single of 21 moves. Balázs Polyák followed in second place with 31.33 moves, while David Vujasić earned third on 34.00 moves, rounding out a display of patience and careful calculation at Big and Blind Samobor 2025.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several dedicated competitors delivered career-defining performances across new disciplines. Filip Judež tackled six events and produced a pristine first ever attempt at 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, securing 6 out of 6 cubes in 52:54 for a fifth-place finish, while also recording his first official 3x3x3 Blindfolded single at 2:55.19 and trimming his 7x7x7 Cube personal best by 11.7 percent down to 4:54.12. Erin Pernar took on four events, achieving an eighth-place finish in Megaminx, logging an official debut attempt in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves at 67 moves, and cutting 19.7 percent off his 5x5x5 Cube personal best to finish at 2:43.88. Danijel Bajsić took on seven events, achieving a 22.4 percent improvement in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves down to 45, while improving his 5x5x5 Cube best by 11.1 percent to 1:29.47 and dropping his 6x6x6 Cube mark by 9.3 percent to 3:15.21.

That same spirit of ambition defined the efforts of other seasoned solvers taking on challenging schedules. Matej Poljanšek entered four events and posted a 14.2 percent personal best drop in the 5x5x5 Cube to reach 2:01.63, alongside a Megaminx personal best of 2:29.16. Filip Bečić competed in nine separate disciplines across the schedule, earning fourth place in 5x5x5 Blindfolded, posting a personal best of 2:17.56 in Megaminx, and conquering his first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Blindfolded in 24:41.00. Jakov Jakšić rounded out the impressive personal milestones by competing in three events, placing 18th in Megaminx and lowering his 5x5x5 Cube personal best by 12.7 percent to 2:39.73.

Blindfolded memory solving provided the weekend with its most demanding tests, and Croatia's Jakov Srečković dominated the category. Srečković secured victory in the 3x3x3 Blindfolded event with a rapid 21.50 single, leaving Marcel Ručigaj second at 41.80 and Matej Bolta third at 46.52. In 4x4x4 Blindfolded, Srečković topped the podium with a 6:05.07 single ahead of Bolta and Vujasić, while in 5x5x5 Blindfolded, his 10:58.00 single narrowly edged Italy's Gabriele Bacchieri at 11:09.00 and Bolta at 12:05.00. Srečković sealed his memory sweep in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind by successfully solving 38 out of 49 cubes in 59:43, a feat that drew admiration from spectators checking the 3x3 results board.

By the time the final cubes were packed away at Centar za mlade Bunker, the standings showed an impressive spread of podium finishes across European nations, with Slovenia taking 11 spots, Croatia capturing 8, Hungary earning 6, and Italy and Serbia earning one each. Big and Blind Samobor 2025 proved to be an exceptional gathering that celebrated the endurance and strategic depth of competitive cubing. Solvers departed Samobor with landmark milestones, fresh personal records, and valuable experience across the most challenging categories the sport has to offer.

The successful execution of Big and Blind Samobor 2025 highlighted how deeply the community values complex formats alongside traditional sprints. With debut attempts logged, personal bests shattered, and dominant multi-event victories recorded, the cubing competition established a high bar for future specialized meetings as solvers look ahead to their next competitive tests.

Raskoš velikih i slijepih slaganja na natjecanju Big and Blind Samobor 2025Hrvatski
