Rising Stars and Rapid Progress Highlight Beveren Sunday Open 2025English
Inside the KA-Beveren venue on September 28, 2025, the rhythmic clack of turning plastic echoed across rows of competition tables as timers flashed bright green. Score sheets moved briskly between judging stations and runners, while competitors warmed up their hands alongside family and fellow solvers. The Beveren Sunday Open 2025 brought 48 speedcubers to Beveren, Belgium for a packed single-day schedule comprising seven distinct events and ten rounds of intense, focused problem solving.
Across the hall, the energy was propelled by an ambitious cohort of young speedcubing hopefuls eager to see their dedicated practice convert into faster official marks. Rapid improvement was evident right from the opening rounds of the traditional Rubik's Cube. With 48 entrants contesting the main event, the race to reach the final round pushed solvers to cut down inspection times and execute algorithm sets with remarkable precision, demonstrating just how quickly new talent is advancing across the regional circuit.
When the 3x3 results were finalized, Robin Teune of the Netherlands claimed victory in the 3x3x3 Cube with a winning average of 6.24 seconds, supported by the day's best single time of 5.16 seconds. Fellow Dutch competitor Olivier Vos secured second place with an 8.18 average, while Belgium's Elias Meynckens earned the third spot on the podium at 8.73 seconds. The high-caliber final capped an intense two-round contest that highlighted the sharp mechanics required at the top level of modern speed cubing.
Beyond the flagship puzzle, Teune mounted an exceptional sweep across the larger cube formats during the WCA competition. In the 4x4x4 Cube, Teune took first place with a 29.96 average and a single of 24.39, finishing ahead of Belgian contenders Matthias Schegers at 31.18 and Raphael Eduardo Kuijpers at 31.80. Teune went on to win the 6x6x6 Cube with an average of 1:40.57 and the 7x7x7 Cube with an average of 2:30.55, establishing a dominant presence throughout the upper reaches of the competition schedule.
Olivier Vos disrupted the sweep in the 5x5x5 Cube, capturing first place with a 49.94 winning average and a best single of 46.41. Teune followed closely behind in second place with a 54.37 average, while Schegers collected another podium finish for Belgium in third at 56.90. The podium tallies throughout the day reflected a strong showing from both neighbouring nations, as Belgian competitors gathered 12 total top-three finishes alongside 9 podium spots earned by Dutch solvers across all contested events.
While the top podiums showcased elite consistency, the heart of the tournament emerged in the breakthrough performances of competitors rewriting their personal records. Lenn Vermeir took on four events, completing his first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube in 3:23.96, trimming his 4x4x4 Cube mark to 1:16.64 to go 40.6 percent faster, and dropping his 3x3x3 Cube best to 12.11. Milo Trendel contested five events, recording his first attempt at 7x7x7 Cube in 4:46.12, while improving his 3x3x3 single to 8.73 and his 5x5x5 Cube best to 1:11.64, both more than 21 percent faster than before.
