Hitesh Kumar Bhuwalka Dominates Across Six Categories at Bengal Cube Open 2024English
Six gold medals across fifteen disciplines defined an extraordinary weekend of speedcubing at Shree Shyam Mandir Ghusuridham Sabhagar in Howrah, West Bengal, India. From December 20 to December 22, the Bengal Cube Open 2024 gathered 56 competitors across 34 rounds of intense action. Leading the pack throughout the three-day WCA competition was Hitesh Kumar Bhuwalka, who established total control across the larger mechanisms and specialized formats, securing top honors in 4x4x4 Cube, 5x5x5 Cube, 6x6x6 Cube, 7x7x7 Cube, 3x3x3 One-Handed, and Skewb.
Bhuwalka set a relentless benchmark on the big puzzles, capturing the 4x4x4 Cube title with an average of 34.20 seconds, the 5x5x5 Cube in 54.95 seconds, the 6x6x6 Cube in 1:32.40, and the 7x7x7 Cube with a 2:43.32 mark. In each of these events, his consistency kept him well clear of the chasing pack. He translated that same mechanical precision to faster events as well, posting an unmatched 16.13 winning average in 3x3x3 One-Handed and a 4.52 average to claim the Skewb title.
The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew 53 competitors through three hard-fought rounds, ultimately crowning Anunak Roy as champion. Roy delivered a tournament-winning 9.18 average alongside a best single of 8.49 to head the final 3x3 results. The podium race was razor-sharp, with Arghadeep Mukherjee securing the silver step with a 9.35 average, just one hundredth of a second ahead of Bhuwalka, who took bronze in 9.36. Roy was a constant presence near the top of the standings all weekend, also claiming second place in 4x4x4 Cube and 6x6x6 Cube, plus third in 5x5x5 Cube, 7x7x7 Cube, Skewb, 3x3x3 Blindfolded, and One-Handed.
