Xuanyi Geng and Ziyu Wu Lead a Packed Nine-Event Weekend at Beijing Winter 2026English
323 competitors stepped up to the tables at the Dahongmen International Convention & Exhibition Center, transforming a mid-January weekend into a relentless showcase of variety and mechanical dexterity. Across 22 fast-paced rounds, Beijing Winter 2026 put nine distinct official events through their paces, spanning compact twisty puzzles to complex dodecahedrons. The sheer diversity of disciplines challenged competitors to shift gears constantly between turning styles, inspection techniques, and solve strategies in Beijing, China on January 10–11, 2026.
The 3x3x3 Cube remained the centerpiece of the program, drawing 295 entrants across four rigorous elimination stages. When the final round wrapped up, Xuanyi Geng topped the official 3x3 results by capturing the title with a winning average of 4.39 seconds, supported by a blazing single of 4.06. Yiheng Wang took the second spot on the podium with a 5.15 average, while Zhaokun Li claimed third with 5.27. As the premier event at this WCA competition, the classic Rubik's Cube delivered razor-sharp margins all the way down to the final solve.
Beyond the traditional cube, the weekend offered an expansive tour through different mechanical challenges. In the 2x2x2 Cube, Yiheng Wang dominated the 159-competitor field by taking victory with an average of 0.87 seconds, alongside a 0.55 single. Tian Xia finished second with 1.29 and Yutong Wang placed third with 1.40. Over in the Pyraminx, Lingkun Jiang navigated three rounds and topped 85 other solvers to win with a 1.42 average and a best single of 1.16, proving how explosive short-format solving can be.
Big cubes demanded endurance and spatial awareness from every entrant. Chen Chen excelled in the 4x4x4 Cube, leading 96 competitors across two rounds to secure first place with a 24.76 average and a 23.49 single. Tianlan Geng finished runner-up at 26.72, followed closely by Yusheng Du in third at 26.76. Ziyu Wu doubled down on multi-layered complexity, winning the 5x5x5 Cube with a 39.24 average and a best mark of 31.62, finishing ahead of Tianlan Geng at 46.07 and Chen Chen at 46.45.
Ziyu Wu continued an exceptional weekend by also taking the title in Megaminx, navigating the twelve-sided puzzle to post a winning average of 27.40 and a single of 26.56. Dongzhe Li claimed second place with 42.79, while Zejun Chen rounded out the top three at 43.76. In the Square-1 event, Jiazhou Li navigated the shape-shifting layers to take the win with a 7.26 average, just edging out Zijia Liu at 7.36 and Xuezhong Deng at 8.43 in a tense final.
Away from the podium battles, Beijing Winter 2026 served as a massive platform for personal milestones and experimental expansions into unfamiliar territory. Arxiden Abdurahman took on a broad slate of eight disciplines, recording a first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube with a time of 1:38.62, a first ever attempt at Skewb in 7.38, and a first ever attempt at Pyraminx in 5.54. Xiyao Wang tackled six events, registering a first ever attempt at Megaminx in 1:07.00, a first ever attempt at Clock in 7.45, and a first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube in 1:18.35. Meanwhile, Yifan Xu stepped up across six events to log a first ever attempt at Skewb in 11.59, a first ever attempt at Pyraminx in 7.60, and a first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube in 2:06.35.
Other competitors delivered dramatic step-ups in their established solve times alongside brand-new puzzle debuts. Yiran Bai contested four events, establishing a first ever attempt at Megaminx with 1:49.05 while dropping a 2x2x2 Cube personal best of 4.26 that was 77.8% faster than their prior 19.20, and a 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 10.38 that was 20.3% faster than their former 13.02. Moxuan Sun entered seven disciplines, logging a first ever attempt at Square-1 in 19.89, a first ever attempt at Megaminx in 1:42.39, and trimming their Pyraminx personal best to 6.63, an improvement of 39.7% over 11.00. Yushengshuo Zhu took on three events, recording a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube in 6.37, a first ever attempt at Clock in 18.71, and posting a 3x3x3 Cube mark of 18.64 that was 46.1% faster than their previous 34.56.
The remaining specialty disciplines brought further variety to the floor. Kaixi Guo won the Skewb final with an even 2.00 average and a single of 1.63, outperforming Zizhen Li at 2.24 and Jiawen Liu at 2.87. In Clock, Jerry Chung of Hong Kong claimed the sole non-mainland podium victory of the weekend, securing first place with a 5.43 average over Jinge Li at 5.57 and Yihui Xu at 5.94. Across the entire cubing competition, mainland Chinese solvers accounted for 26 podium places, with Hong Kong securing one.
The gathering served as a reminder of how diverse modern speed cubing has become. Solvers transitioned smoothly between lightning-quick corner-turning puzzles, multi-layered cubes, and mechanical gear systems over two full days of competition. With 323 participants leaving their mark across nine different formats, Beijing Winter 2026 highlighted the immense technical breadth and community energy that continue to define the current speedcubing landscape heading into the rest of 2026.
