Beijing University Cube League 2025 Caps the Season With Dominant Big Cube ShowcasesEnglish
The competition hall at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications buzzed with steady focus as solving mats blinked green and timers clicked through two full days of action. Across every station, competitors lined up their puzzles, adjusted tension settings, and waited for the official release of the covers. The gathering formed an electric atmosphere in Beijing, China, bringing together 128 competitors on October 25 and October 26 for a pivotal autumn stop on the annual cubing calendar.
As the 2025 calendar moves into its closing stretch, this late-season cubing competition provided an essential proving ground for contenders aiming to refine their routines before the year concludes. With 11 rounds contested across five distinct events, Beijing University Cube League 2025 placed a heavy emphasis on puzzle mastery ranging from the traditional 3x3x3 Cube to the demanding larger layers. Every solve carried weight as contenders looked to lock in strong marks in the season standings.
In the flagship 3x3x3 Cube, the 3x3 results delivered world-class speed throughout three intense rounds among 118 entrants. Yufang Du took top honors on the podium with a winning average of 5.19 seconds, anchored by a best single solve of 4.66 seconds. Ruihang Xu finished as the runner-up with an average of 5.40 seconds, while Jiazhou Li secured third place with an average of 6.22 seconds, completing an all-China sweep of the top positions in the classic Rubik's Cube event.
Ruihang Xu found his golden moment in the 4x4x4 Cube, leading the field of 88 competitors across two rounds with an exceptional winning average of 21.37 seconds and a best single time of 17.89 seconds. Jiazhou Li climbed to second place on the 4x4x4 podium with a 26.19 average, followed closely by Chen Chen in third with a mark of 26.57 seconds. The contest demonstrated the technical precision required to handle mid-sized puzzles under the strict pressure of an official WCA competition.
Tianlan Geng emerged as the standout multi-event powerhouse of the weekend, securing a double victory in the larger categories. In the 5x5x5 Cube, Geng captured first place with an average of 44.95 seconds and a single of 43.40, holding off Ruihang Xu, who posted a 45.34 average, and Jiazhou Li, who recorded a 47.76 average. Geng returned to the table in the 6x6x6 Cube to post a dominant winning average of 1:23.57, outpacing Yijun Yin at 1:27.24 and Chongkui Chen at 1:27.90.
The 7x7x7 Cube concluded the big-cube roster with Chongkui Chen claiming the title, logging a winning average of 2:03.94 and a remarkable best single solve of 1:53.45 across two rounds. Tianlan Geng added another podium finish by taking second place with an average of 2:18.45, while Tao Sun rounded out the top three with a final average of 2:21.01. Across all five events, speedcubing competitors from China swept the 15 available podium positions.
Beyond the championship battles, several athletes delivered remarkable breakthroughs away from the podium spotlight. Haoyuan Lu took on five events and made huge strides, lowering their 6x6x6 Cube personal best to 1:53.78, which was 41.4 percent faster than their previous mark of 3:14.31, alongside a 5x5x5 Cube best of 1:01.85 that was 35.3 percent faster than before, while also logging a first ever attempt at 7x7x7 Cube in 3:09.60. Siheng Chen tackled five events, recording a 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 8.22 seconds to go 25.7 percent faster than their old 11.06 benchmark, alongside first ever official attempts in the 6x6x6 Cube at 2:14.86 and the 7x7x7 Cube at 3:18.81.
That same drive was evident across a busy weekend of multi-event schedules. Congxi Liu entered four events and dropped their 5x5x5 Cube mark to 1:10.09, an improvement 19.9 percent faster than their previous 1:27.54 best, while registering first attempts in 6x6x6 Cube at 2:33.19 and 7x7x7 Cube at 3:30.44. Jiacheng Lou contested five events, improving their 6x6x6 Cube best by 19.3 percent to 2:56.77 from 3:38.97, and recording first attempts in 5x5x5 Cube at 1:47.68 and 7x7x7 Cube at 5:07.71. Jianming Yang dropped their 5x5x5 Cube time by 13.2 percent to 1:03.07 while posting initial marks of 2:11.76 on 6x6x6 Cube and 3:26.79 on 7x7x7 Cube, and Shuochen Wang took on five events to log debut marks of 1:15.12 on 5x5x5 Cube, 2:34.38 on 6x6x6 Cube, and 5:14.49 on 7x7x7 Cube.
The Beijing University Cube League 2025 highlighted both high-end speed cubing execution and widespread personal progress. From rapid 3x3x3 solves to marathon 7x7x7 efforts, the weekend delivered a comprehensive showcase of puzzle solving in Beijing as the season heads toward its final chapter.
