Sébastien and Carliez Lead Lightning Speeds at Barby Cube 2026English

The Salle des Fêtes stood ready as timers blinked and mats lined the tables across four full days of action from May 22 to May 25. An ambitious schedule brought 99 competitors together in Barby, France, to contest 17 events spanning 25 total rounds. Long tables filled quickly each morning with solvers warming up their fingers and inspecting scrambled puzzles. The atmosphere inside the venue captured the unmistakable energy of a premier cubing competition, where both seasoned veterans and rising talents prepared to challenge the stopwatch in the year 2026.

The lightning-fast short-format events took center stage right away, beginning with an electrifying contest on the classic Rubik's Cube. Juliette Sébastien delivered a masterclass across two rounds of 3x3 results, capturing victory with a blistering 6.43 winning average among a field of 93 competitors. Sébastien also secured the best single of the event at 4.91. Mathis Luc pushed hard to earn second place with a 7.04 average, while Indonesia's Benjamin Wirahpati joined the podium in third with a 7.87 mark. Sébastien kept the momentum rolling into 3x3x3 One-Handed, claiming first place with a 9.01 average and setting a French national record single of 6.86.

Speed in its purest, most frantic form arrived during the 2x2x2 Cube event, where turns are counted in fractions of seconds. Timon Carliez proved unstoppable throughout two rounds featuring 73 entrants, securing first place on the podium with a razor-sharp 2.13 winning average and a best single of 1.58. Noé Bourdon took the runner-up position with a 2.40 average, while Juliette Sébastien added another trophy to her weekend tally by grabbing third place with a 2.49 average. The brisk event kept the pace at peak intensity throughout the opening phases of the tournament.

Beyond the traditional three-layered puzzles, speedcubing enthusiasts were treated to incredible versatility across multiple formats. Benjamin Wirahpati demonstrated outstanding range across the larger cubes and side events, winning the 4x4x4 Cube with a 26.49 average ahead of Sébastien's 27.95 and Baptiste Bery's 30.27. Wirahpati also triumphed in Megaminx with a 35.98 average, dominated the 6x6x6 Cube in 1:29.48, and captured the 7x7x7 Cube with a 2:25.68 mark. Baptiste Bery took top honors in the 5x5x5 Cube with a 55.63 average as well as the Pyraminx with a 3.59 average.
