One-Handed Mastery and Multi-Event Precision Highlight Bangalore Cube Open July 2023English

Dhruva Sai Meruva delivered a commanding performance in 3x3x3 One-Handed at the Bangalore Cube Open July 2023, setting a benchmark that separated him decisively from the rest of the field. The one-handed discipline demands an entirely different tactical approach from traditional two-handed solving, testing finger strength, specialized table ergonomics, and continuous lookahead under severe mechanical constraints. Meruva navigated those technical hurdles with complete authority across two demanding rounds, posting an outstanding 10.99 winning average and a crisp 9.64 single to claim top honors.

The 3x3x3 One-Handed podium reflected the intensity of the event, which drew 70 competitors to the tables. India's Nived Anoop secured second place with a solid 16.18 average, while Aarush Vasanadu of the United States finished third with a mark of 17.11. Beyond the one-handed showcase, the weekend unfolded into an expansive celebration of speed cubing at The Galleria Mall in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. Running from July 29 to July 30, 2023, the gathering brought together 196 competitors who battled across 5 distinct puzzle disciplines spanning 11 rounds of official action.

The main Rubik's Cube event stood as the centerpiece of the entire WCA competition, featuring an immense field of 187 competitors competing across three cutthroat rounds. Surya Arun captured the premier title with consistent execution, recording an average of 8.44 and a best single of 7.97 in the final round. Arvind Ajay Bharadwaj took the runner-up spot with a 9.37 average, while Naren Ramesh rounded out the all-India podium with a 9.53 mark. The high standard seen across the 3x3 results reinforced the exceptional depth of regional speedcubing talent.

Naren Ramesh enjoyed a remarkably prolific weekend across multiple puzzles, capturing two separate championship titles. In the 2x2x2 Cube final, Ramesh secured victory with a lightning-fast 2.25 winning average and a single of 1.92, leading a podium that included Rohan Dharmak of the United States in second with 2.69 and Aarush Vasanadu in third with 2.70. Ramesh matched that success on the Pyraminx, taking first place with an average of 2.40 and a single of 1.86, finishing ahead of Indian contenders Sai Mrudhun at 3.50 and Daksh Bhardwaj at 3.61.

Big cube solving brought further excitement to the schedule in the 4x4x4 Cube event, where Mikul Chanakya emerged triumphant after two rounds featuring 68 entrants. Chanakya took the title with a polished 39.31 winning average and a standout single of 35.05. The battle for the top spot was extraordinarily tight, as Surya Arun followed closely behind in second place with a 39.85 average, while Lakshmi Sai Srivatsa claimed third on the podium with a time of 41.43 to conclude an exciting contest.

Away from the championship finals, the heart of this cubing competition lived in the massive personal leaps made across the competitor roster. TC Suriya took on three events and dropped their Pyraminx mark to a 14.88 personal best, improving by 71.8 percent compared to their previous 52.77 mark, while also recording a 1:13.40 in 3x3x3 Cube and a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube of 35.76. Chinmay Hiremath completed a demanding five-event schedule, securing a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 2:10.18, a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube in 10.82, and a Pyraminx personal best of 8.24, which was 42.3 percent faster than before. Ankush M. Rao logged five events, delivering a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube in 11.49, a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed in 1:38.61, and a Pyraminx personal best of 15.68 that cut 20.8 percent off their previous time.
