Mean-of-Three Drama Demands Absolute Precision at Autotalo Anime Adventure I 2024English
Inside the Autotalo venue in Helsinki, Finland, competitors gathered across January 6 and January 7 to begin the 2024 cubing competition calendar. Tables were lined with timers, stopwatches, and puzzles spanning ten distinct disciplines, creating an intense environment where focus was paramount. For the twenty-six participants taking part, every single turn counted, but nowhere was the pressure heavier than in the unforgiving mean-of-three events. With no dropped times to cushion an error, a solitary misstep could unravel an entire weekend of preparation.
The harsh reality of these formats was on full display throughout Autotalo Anime Adventure I 2024. In the 3x3x3 Fewest Moves contest, where solvers spend sixty minutes searching for the most efficient sequence on a Rubik's Cube, every attempt is factored directly into the final average. Finland's Urho Kinnunen mastered the mental battle, delivering a best single of 29 moves and an unrivaled mean of 30.00 to take first place. Niko Ronkainen earned silver with a 32.33 average, while Oliver Pällo of Estonia claimed third with 33.00.
The 6x6x6 Cube similarly tested consistency over three consecutive solves without the safety net of an eliminated worst time. Kinnunen once again proved flawless under pressure, posting a winning average of 1:52.89 and a best single solve of 1:49.40. Oliver Pällo secured second place with an average of 2:05.29, edging out Philipp Danileiko, who finished on the podium in third with 2:05.96. The grueling event showed how maintaining composure across three consecutive big-cube solves remains one of the toughest challenges in modern speedcubing.
Philipp Danileiko turned the tables in the 7x7x7 Cube, putting together an exceptional mean of 2:56.56 alongside a fast single of 2:46.69 across two rounds to secure the championship. Kinnunen fought hard across the three attempts to claim second place with a 3:01.74 average, while Luukas Lempinen rounded out the podium positions in third at 3:02.83. The relentless nature of the largest puzzles on the schedule highlighted the endurance required to succeed at this level of speed cubing.
Beyond the grueling endurance tests, the speed events delivered thrilling battles across the twenty-six total rounds. Luukas Lempinen captured top honors in the 4x4x4 Cube with a 35.05 average and a sub-thirty single of 29.87, edging Kinnunen's 36.29 average and Remo Pihel's 36.33. Lempinen also prevailed in Square-1, taking victory with a 10.32 average and a round-best 7.52 single. In Clock, Antto Pitkänen won with a 5.51 average, just ahead of Leo Alanen at 6.05 and Niko Ronkainen at 6.26. Kinnunen added more hardware by winning 5x5x5 Cube in 1:03.75, Megaminx in 58.32, Skewb in 2.83, and 3x3x3 One-Handed in 14.01.
While the top steps of the podium featured familiar winners, Autotalo Anime Adventure I 2024 served as a breakthrough stage for competitors tackling fresh challenges. Eino Seitala took on seven events and recorded a massive personal best of 12.59 in Clock, cutting 48.6 percent off his previous record, while also posting his first ever official attempts in Megaminx at 2:58.85 and Square-1 at 48.48. Otso Rannikko reached fifth place in Clock with a new personal best of 5.84, recorded his first Square-1 attempt at 22.66, and improved his 3x3x3 One-Handed personal best by 8.9 percent to 18.72.
