Greek Solvers Tackle Multiple Disciplines at Athens Summer Break B 2024English

Forty-six competitors gathered on June 16, 2024, at THE RUBICON escape rooms in Athens, Greece, to tackle an exciting slate of speedcubing disciplines across six total rounds. The single-day WCA competition brought a diverse mix of formats into focus, challenging participants to shift their mechanics between standard cubic twisting and non-cubic geometry. Solvers moved quickly between the signature 3x3x3 Cube, the tetrahedron-shaped Pyraminx, and the corner-turning Skewb, showcasing the full technical range required across modern puzzle categories.

The 3x3x3 Cube served as the centerpiece discipline, featuring three full rounds of action for the 46 registered solvers. Giannis Grigoropoulos led the field through to the final, securing first place overall with a winning average of 8.70 seconds and delivering a best single solve of 7.87 seconds. Grigoropoulos had earlier posted an 8.62 average and a 6.76 single during the competition, establishing the quickest marks of the entire 3x3 results roster.

Nikolas Belalidis captured the second position on the 3x3x3 Cube podium with a 9.66 final average, having also produced a 9.42 single and a 9.92 average earlier in the day. Aggelos Arapai took third place with a 10.08 final average, backing up personal milestones that included a 9.01 single and a 9.89 average. The standard Rubik's Cube final capped an intense sequence of rounds that rewarded steady execution under standard tournament regulations.

Beyond the main event, the alternate puzzles tested completely different finger movements and mechanical turn styles. In Pyraminx, which drew 35 competitors over two rounds, Athanasios Bouboulis claimed the victory with a 5.29 winning average and a top single of 4.38. Andreas Mitzithras followed closely in second place at 6.08, while Nikolas Belalidis secured his second podium finish of the day by placing third with a 6.17 average.

The single-round Skewb competition delivered rapid outcomes among 33 entrants, demanding precise axis manipulation. Andreas Mitzithras took top honors with an impressive 3.95 winning average, highlighted by a blistering 2.76 single solve. George Kouros finished second with a 7.38 average, while Pyraminx champion Athanasios Bouboulis stepped up to claim third with an 8.56 average, completing an all-Greek podium sweep across all three disciplines.

Behind the top spots on the leaderboard, numerous solvers achieved dramatic time reductions while taking on multiple disciplines at Athens Summer Break B 2024. Many competitors balanced technical single-layer solving on Pyraminx with the deep-cut turning of Skewb and classic layer-by-layer methods on the standard cube. With all nine podium spots secured by domestic entrants, the tournament highlighted a thriving competitive environment.
