Versatile Solvers Shine Across Multiple Disciplines at Athens Summer Break A 2025English
A blistering final round in the classic 3x3x3 Cube set the tone in the Greek capital as Nikolas Belalidis secured the premier title at Athens Summer Break A 2025 with an exceptional 9.02 winning average. The performance served as the pinnacle of an action-packed one-day gathering on June 14, 2025, held at THE RUBICON escape rooms in Athens, Greece. Across six intense rounds of speedcubing, 50 competitors demonstrated their versatility over three distinct events, tackling everything from compact mechanical twisters to tetrahedral geometries.
The official WCA competition highlighted a broad range of solving skills, challenging participants across different disciplines that required vastly unique finger movements, algorithmic knowledge, and spatial awareness. Beyond the standard Rubik's Cube, the schedule gave equal prominence to rapid sprinting in the 2x2x2 Cube and the angular challenge of the Pyraminx. This balance rewarded solvers who could transition seamlessly between differing puzzle shapes and turning mechanics throughout a compact, high-stakes schedule.
In the marquee 3x3x3 Cube, which drew 48 competitors over three demanding rounds, the 3x3 results produced tight battles down to the wire. Belalidis recorded the best single solve of the event at 8.21 on his path to a decisive victory with his 9.02 average. Charidimos Gourniezakis secured second place on the podium with a solid 9.45 average, while Ioannis Ntalis claimed third place with a 9.59 average.
The 2x2x2 Cube event presented a high-speed sprint across a single round of 44 competitors, where precision left no room for error. Panagiotis Christopoulos followed closely behind to claim the runner-up spot with a 2.38 average, while Ioannis Ntalis earned his second podium finish of the day by placing third with an average of 2.43.
The Pyraminx introduced a distinct change in geometry, requiring solvers to navigate tetrahedral turns over two rounds featuring 29 competitors. Ioannis Ntalis capped off a remarkably versatile day by taking first place with a 3.16 winning average alongside a tournament-best single of 2.49. Ilias Sotiriou earned second place with a 3.37 average, and Andreas Mitzithras rounded out the top three with an average of 4.44, concluding a sweep of all nine podium places by Greek competitors.
