Rowe Hessler Sweeps Blindfolded Events at Ashfield Winter Challenge 2024English
A staggering display of memory and accuracy unfolded in Massachusetts as Rowe Hessler solved 63 out of 68 cubes blindfolded in 59 minutes and 33 seconds. That massive multi-cube performance set the tone for Ashfield Winter Challenge 2024, held on December 1, 2024, at Ashfield Town Hall. Bringing together a dedicated group of 13 competitors, the single-day WCA competition showcased extraordinary specialization across memory and efficiency disciplines. From the classic Rubik's Cube to large multi-layer puzzles, competitors delivered intense, focused performances that proved how quickly talent is advancing across the local speedcubing landscape.
The 3x3x3 Blindfolded contest proved to be one of the most exciting segments of the day, spanning two rounds. Rowe Hessler topped the field with a best single time of 21.35 seconds in the final round to take first place. Chris Chi finished in the runner-up spot with a time of 43.92 seconds, while Saisabari Ramesh secured third place by posting a 1:16.29 solve. Across the rounds, solvers pushed their limits, testing quick memorization and rapid execution without looking at the puzzle faces.
In the 3x3x3 Fewest Moves discipline, efficiency was the sole objective, with competitors seeking the shortest possible sequence to solve the puzzle within a strict time limit. Levi Gibson and Krish Shah-Nathwani shared the top spot on the podium, each finishing with an identical winning average of 21.00 moves. Gibson recorded a best single attempt of 20 moves during the round. Chris Chi rounded out the podium positions in third place with a 21.67 average, marking another strong showing in a tightly contested field.
The bigger blindfolded puzzles added even more complexity to the schedule. In 4x4x4 Blindfolded, Rowe Hessler claimed another victory with a winning single time of 2:52.93 across seven competitors. Chris Chi earned second place with a time of 4:54.60, followed by Brandon Villadolid in third place with a single of 6:08.24. The 5x5x5 Blindfolded event saw Hessler complete a clean sweep of the memory categories, taking the win in 4:32.67. Michael Lee achieved second place with a time of 28:08.00 in the grueling event.
The 3x3x3 Multi-Blind event brought extensive concentration to the venue floor as solvers attempted multiple puzzles consecutively after a single memorization phase. Hessler led the pack with 63 points out of 68 cubes within the 59:33 limit. Brandon Villadolid delivered a flawless result to take second place, successfully solving 6 out of 6 cubes in 31:00. Michael Lee completed the podium in third place, successfully completing 6 out of 7 cubes in a time of 53:53.
Beyond the championship battles at Ashfield Winter Challenge 2024, the day was defined by solvers taking on major personal milestones and testing new disciplines.
