Inside Centro Cultural La Pacheca, the rhythmic clack of plastic pieces echoed across the hall as twenty-one competitors settled at the solving stations. The staging area hummed with focused preparation, timers clicking into readiness while judges monitored every detail across two full days of competition. Hosted in Arriate, Málaga, Spain on April 18 and April 19, this high-stakes speedcubing weekend brought together seasoned podium contenders and determined challengers seeking major improvements across twelve official events spanning twenty-one intense rounds.

The battle at the top of the standings evolved into a direct regional showdown between two Spanish standouts, Álvaro Aguilar Salobreña and Raúl Cuevas Castillo. Both competitors traded event titles from the shorter disciplines to the complex multi-layered puzzles. In the traditional Rubik's Cube category, Aguilar Salobreña proved unstoppable across three rounds. He topped the 3x3 results with a winning average of 8.88 seconds, anchored by a best single solve of 8.13 seconds to hold off the twenty-player field in the main event of the 2026 calendar.

Aguilar Salobreña extended his winning run across the shorter and shape-shifting events. In the 2x2x2 Cube final, he captured the title with a 2.48-second winning average after posting a sharp 1.76 single, edging out Francisco Javier García Góngora who averaged 2.97 seconds and Ventura Márquez Grima who finished third in 3.69 seconds. Aguilar Salobreña also claimed first place in the 4x4x4 Cube with a 32.26-second average and added another victory in Square-1, delivering an 11.72 average to beat Márquez Grima and Cuevas Castillo.

Cuevas Castillo delivered an equally dominant counterattack across five distinct disciplines during this WCA competition. In the Pyraminx, he recorded a winning average of 2.70 seconds and a single of 1.92 to finish ahead of García Góngora and Germany's Leonard Wetzel. Cuevas Castillo took top honours in Clock with an average of 6.58 seconds, besting García Góngora and Aguilar Salobreña. He then captured the Megaminx crown with a 38.27-second average and swept both the 5x5x5 Cube in 1:11.10 and the 6x6x6 Cube in 2:16.77.

The contest for podium places expanded further into international territory when Leonard Wetzel of Germany disrupted the domestic frontrunners. In Skewb, Wetzel secured first place with an average of 3.75 seconds, outpacing Fernando Sáez Lázaro who averaged 3.97 and Cuevas Castillo at 4.89. In the largest puzzle of the schedule, the 7x7x7 Cube, Ventura Márquez Grima claimed the gold medal with a winning average of 3:50.47 and a single of 3:41.30, holding off Wetzel's 3:54.40 average and Cuevas Castillo's 3:55.25. Meanwhile, Sergio Chaparro Díaz-Cano won 3x3x3 Blindfolded with a 58.93 single.
