Twan Dullemond Leads Dutch Sweep Across Nine High-Calibre Rounds in WijnegemEnglish

Seventy-four competitors gathered in Wijnegem, Belgium, setting up an intense slate of action as seasoned competitors demonstrated top-tier form at the Annuntia Sunday Open 2023. Taking place on November 19, 2023, the single-day gathering tested solvers across nine separate rounds spanning six classic disciplines. Dutch standout Twan Dullemond set the pace from the start, delivering a masterclass in efficiency that demonstrated why seasoned campaigners thrive when the margins become razor-thin. His commanding execution across multiple formats framed a dominant day for established competitors on the European circuit.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew all 74 participants across three full rounds of cutting-edge speedcubing. Dullemond ultimately claimed top honours with a winning average of 6.03 seconds and a sharp 5.67 best single, cementing his control over the field. Mika Smulders secured the silver position with a 7.00 average, having earlier posted a blazing 5.29 single, while Olivier Vos rounded out an all-Netherlands podium with a 7.52 average. The deep 3x3 results showed tremendous pacing throughout the knockout stages, confirming that experienced hands were fully dialled in for this high-stakes cubing competition.

Dullemond proved nearly unstoppable on the larger puzzles as well, turning the mid-sized and big cube categories into personal showcases of consistency. In the 4x4x4 Cube, he clinched victory with a winning average of 25.49 seconds, backed by a quick 22.92 single, once again besting Smulders who took second in 26.01 and Vos in third at 32.21. The 5x5x5 Cube followed an identical hierarchy, as Dullemond secured gold with a 50.38 average, followed by Smulders at 54.08 and Vos at 1:00.46, illustrating the precision control required over intricate mechanical hardware.

The 7x7x7 Cube presented the ultimate test of endurance, featuring 24 dedicated competitors wrestling with the largest official puzzle on the schedule. Dullemond capped his four-title weekend with a decisive 2:46.74 winning average, anchored by a best single of 2:43.25. The host nation found its way onto the podium here, as Belgium's Guillaume David delivered an impressive 3:10.34 average for second place, closely followed by compatriot Adrien Schumacker, who posted a 3:12.59 average to lock up the bronze medal.

Away from the top steps of the podium, the Annuntia Sunday Open 2023 produced dozens of landmark personal breakthroughs that defined the character of the meeting.
