Ablak Claims Seven Victories as Ankara October 2024 Tests Speedcubing PrecisionEnglish

Eighteen competitors gathered in Ankara, Turkey, for two intensive days of puzzle solving on October 12 and 13, 2024. Across twelve rounds spanning eight official events, the competition placed unforgiving demands on consistency. In standard tournament formats, a five-solve round grants the luxury of dropping the best and worst attempts, softening the blow of an errant turn or lockup. In smaller mean-of-3 events or tight direct finals, however, every single move carries ultimate weight. A solitary hesitation or mechanical slip can unravel an entire weekend of preparation, leaving no safety net for anyone who loses focus.

Held at the TMMOB Teoman Öztürk Öğrenci Evi ve Sosyal Tesisi, Ankara October 2024 provided a stage where precision proved decisive across both short bursts and marathon solving. Ahmet Çınar Ablak delivered an extraordinary demonstration of reliability across the schedule, capturing top honours in seven of the eight events. In the 5x5x5 Cube, where longer solves demand continuous concentration, Ablak secured victory with a 49.58 average and a best single time of 46.88. Onur Karahan claimed second place with a 1:32.76 average, while Alim Jahangırov took third with 1:35.85.

The traditional 3x3x3 Cube competition featured three rounds of high-pressure speedcubing, where Ahmet Çınar Ablak maintained control through to the finals. Ablak finished first in the decisive round with a winning average of 6.85, backed by a tournament-best single of 4.79. Onur Karahan followed in the silver position with an average of 9.74, while Alim Jahangırov stepped onto the podium in third place recording a 10.39 average. The classic Rubik's Cube remains the signature event of any WCA competition, and the clean 3x3 results from the podium finishers reflected exceptional execution under tournament pressure.

One of the fastest battles unfolded in the 2x2x2 Cube, which also featured three rounds of rapid speed cubing. The final came down to fractions of a second, with Ahmet Çınar Ablak taking the title with a 3.21 average, narrowly edging out Nihat Sarp Ustaömer who finished second with 3.28. Onur Karahan finished close behind in third with 3.37. Earlier rounds saw swift times across the board, with Ablak notching a single solve of 1.58 during the event. The margins left no margin for error, illustrating how a split second defines the standings in sprint puzzles.

Beyond the top steps of the podium, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones across their events throughout the cubing competition. Yunus Emre Sarıgül entered six disciplines and achieved massive breakthroughs, taking fourth place in Skewb while dropping his 3x3x3 One-Handed personal best to 39.85, an improvement of 36.9 percent. Sarıgül also lowered his 3x3x3 Cube mark by 21.4 percent to 16.58 and reduced his 4x4x4 Cube best to 1:51.09. Kaan Demirbaş took on three events and earned a ninth-place finish in Pyraminx, cutting his 2x2x2 Cube personal best by 36.7 percent to 7.74 and his 3x3x3 Cube best by 22.2 percent down to 44.10.

Progress continued across the field as other solvers tackled fresh challenges and personal milestones. Gencay Ertürk logged his first ever attempts at Pyraminx with a 10.22 single and 2x2x2 Cube with 6.73, while placing tenth in Pyraminx and trimming his 3x3x3 Cube best by 12 percent down to 20.68. Mustafa Kaplan competed in two events, taking on his first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube with a 6.86 and cutting his 3x3x3 Cube best by 19.9 percent to 26.91. Meanwhile, Arda Canbazoğlu finished seventh in Pyraminx across four events, reducing his 2x2x2 Cube best by 18.1 percent to 10.36 and his 3x3x3 Cube best to 37.72.

Ablak continued his winning form across the remaining puzzle categories, taking the 4x4x4 Cube with a 30.49 average and a 28.88 single, where Jahangırov finished second at 36.35 and Karahan took third at 43.97. In the single-handed test of 3x3x3 One-Handed, Ablak secured another first-place finish with a 14.20 average, followed by Karahan with 15.68 and Jahangırov with 19.23. The mechanical challenges of the Pyraminx and Skewb also yielded gold for Ablak, logging a 2.99 average in Pyraminx ahead of Jahangırov's 4.01 and Deniz Yiğit's 7.75, and a 4.82 average in Skewb over Karahan's 8.31 and Jahangırov's 8.98.

The sole event to escape Ablak's grasp was Clock, where Zeki Hotoğlu produced a clinical performance to capture first place. Hotoğlu secured victory with an 8.76 average and a fast 7.58 single, finishing ahead of Ablak, who took second with 9.69, while Ecevit Ablak earned third place with an 11.69 average. Across all eight events at Ankara October 2024, Turkish competitors claimed all twenty-four podium positions. The tournament concluded as a showcase of poise, technical mastery, and steady nerves through every turn.
