Ablak Commands the Field as Ankara August 2024 Puts Technique on DisplayEnglish
Twelve seconds and fifty-three hundredths of a second stood between Ahmet Çınar Ablak and the rest of the field in one of the weekend's most demanding events. Controlling the standard Rubik's Cube with a single hand requires an exacting balance of finger-trick efficiency, table grip, and spatial foresight. At Ankara August 2024, Ablak mastered those exact mechanics, turning in an outstanding 12.53 winning average in the 3x3x3 One-Handed final alongside a best single of 11.68 across two competitive rounds. Onur Karahan claimed second place with a 15.79 average, while Mohammad Ahmad Abu Hussein rounded out the podium at 17.42 in an impressive showcase of unilateral dexterity.
The 3x3x3 One-Handed contest, which drew 24 competitors to the tables at the TMMOB Teoman Öztürk Öğrenci Evi ve Sosyal Tesisi, set the tone for an action-packed speedcubing gathering in Ankara, Turkey. Running across August 10 to August 11, the competition welcomed 41 competitors tackling 9 events spread over 17 rounds. Ablak's single-handed triumph proved to be only one chapter in a weekend where technical execution defined the top of the standings across multiple puzzles and formats.
Beyond his one-handed masterclass, Ablak established himself as the dominant force of the entire cubing competition. In the standard 3x3x3 Cube event, featuring 40 entrants across three rounds, he delivered a championship average of 8.15 to secure the title ahead of Ahmet Faruk Acar at 9.67 and Alim Jahangırov at 10.01. Ablak produced a blistering 6.57 single during the classic event, cementing top-tier 3x3 results for the home contingent throughout the tournament schedule.
Ablak added four more titles to his ledger over the two days. In 2x2x2 Cube, he posted a winning mark of 2.36 to finish ahead of Nihat Sarp Ustaömer and Onur Karahan. He transitioned smoothly to the larger puzzles, securing the 4x4x4 Cube victory with a 31.80 average over Mohammad Ahmad Abu Hussein and Alim Jahangırov, followed by a commanding 54.92 average to win the 5x5x5 Cube ahead of Ali Atmali and Asaf Selim Horuz. In 3x3x3 Blindfolded, where pure memorisation meets mental calculation, Ablak seized first place with a single solve of 2:43.71, topping Ahmad Abu Hussein.
