Othman Saleh Edges Final Round Thriller at Amman Spring B 2026English

A winning average of 9.46 seconds decided the premier contest as the 3x3x3 Cube final went down to the narrowest margins at The Idea Chamber. When the final solves concluded on April 18, 2026, Othman Saleh stood atop the standings by just thirty-three hundredths of a second over Zaid Mayyas. That closing sequence capped a tense two-round bracket in Amman, Jordan, where twenty-three competitors pushed the limits across five rounds and four distinct disciplines.

The single-day WCA competition brought sharp, high-pressure solving across every format. Saleh set the bar early with a tournament-best single solve of 8.02 seconds in the headline event, maintaining composure through the final round to secure first place. Mayyas kept the pressure on through every rotation, posting a 9.79 average for second place, while Kamel Hammouri completed the podium in third with an average of 10.25 seconds. The resulting 3x3 results demonstrated how precise modern speedcubing has become at the regional level.

Beyond the classic Rubik's Cube, Hammouri claimed top honors in the 2x2x2 Cube with a rapid 3.83 winning average and a single of 3.20 seconds. The single-round showdown was fiercely contested, with Sarah Odeh finishing runner-up on a 4.17 average and Hani Al-Karrain rounding out the top three at 4.34 seconds. The brisk pace set the tone for an efficient, competitive afternoon among Jordan's dedicated cubers.

David Samuel Surls proved dominant across the alternate puzzles, taking home two individual victories for the United States. In the Pyraminx, Surls posted a winning mark of 6.83 seconds, narrowly holding off Hammouri at 6.92 and Saleh at 6.97 in one of the tightest top-three finishes of the day. Surls followed up with another polished display on the Skewb, taking first place with a 5.75 average ahead of Saleh at 6.97 and Mayyas at 7.53.

Behind the medal chases, several competitors delivered massive personal breakthroughs across the board. Ezekiel Dao Schwendemann logged a 5.09 single in Pyraminx to improve his previous mark by 52.6 percent, while cutting his 2x2x2 Cube best down to 3.15 seconds for a 46.7 percent drop. Ammar Yaser Awad advanced his Skewb standard to 5.58 seconds, a 41.7 percent leap, alongside a 35 percent improvement on 2x2x2 Cube with a 3.42 single. Adam Abu Salim shaved 38.3 percent off his 2x2x2 Cube best with a 6.25 and improved his 3x3x3 mark by 33.4 percent to 22.33, also registering a first attempt at Pyraminx with a 13.03.

The tournament floor also welcomed significant milestones for emerging talents tackling new events. Micah Davis posted a personal best of 4.47 seconds on 2x2x2 Cube, an improvement of 26.8 percent, while recording a first official Pyraminx attempt of 6.24 and a Skewb debut of 9.43. Ahmad Al-Masalmeh lowered his 3x3x3 Cube best to 14.55 seconds, an improvement of 20.4 percent, while taking on four separate events. Joaquin Chureo notched an 18.81 single on 3x3x3 Cube for a 19.7 percent drop, and Moatasim Abdelhaleem Kamel Alshaar cut his Skewb personal record by 14.1 percent to 13.61 seconds. First-time competitor Karam Mohammad Salem Dardas contested four disciplines, recording a 25.70 single in 3x3x3 Cube, a 7.90 in 2x2x2 Cube, and a 12.14 in Pyraminx.

Overall, competitors from Jordan earned ten podium positions throughout the program, with the United States collecting two. The atmosphere of speed cubing at The Idea Chamber reflected both tactical discipline in the finals and substantial growth throughout the ranks, making Amman Spring B 2026 a memorable chapter in the 2026 calendar.

With five rounds of intense play concluded in a single day, the cubing competition highlighted the depth of local talent and the thrill of deciding major titles on the very last turn.
