Yug Patel Clinches 3x3x3 and 2x2x2 Titles at Amalthea Cube Open 2024English
Inside the bustling halls of IIT Gandhinagar, the rapid clacking of twisting plastic echoed across the tables as competitors prepared their puzzles under the bright venue lights. Across nine rounds of intense play, sixty-three solvers stepped up to the timing pads with focus and determination. The gathering brought together dedicated puzzle enthusiasts from across the region for an action-packed day of tournament play.
While big cubes like the five by five, six by six, and seven by seven often test the physical endurance, deep algorithmic memory, and sustained concentration of competitors across extended solves, the program at Amalthea Cube Open 2024 instead demanded explosive speed and precision in shorter formats. Every second counted across the five scheduled disciplines, requiring solvers to summon total focus from the very first turn of their solves on November 10, 2024.
The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew a large field of sixty-two competitors across two rounds of speedcubing action. Yug Patel captured first place, delivering a winning average of 7.98 seconds alongside the fastest single solve of the event at 5.70 seconds. Divyaansh Khatri secured the second spot on the podium with a 10.30 average, while Harsh Chelani rounded out the top three with a 10.71 mark in the official 3x3 results.
Yug Patel continued his dominance by topping the 2x2x2 Cube event, posting a first-place average of 2.54 seconds and a top single of 2.12 seconds among fifty-six competitors. Harsh Chelani took the runner-up position with an average of 3.21 seconds, also logging a standout 1.88 single in the preliminary round. Divyaansh Khatri earned his second podium finish of the competition by taking third place with a 3.48 average.
Beyond the top steps of the podium, the tournament served up remarkable personal milestones for competitors across the roster. Nishit Chauhan tackled four events and recorded a massive 70.7 percent improvement on his 2x2x2 Cube personal best with a 1.72 single, in addition to trying Skewb for the first time with an 8.72 result and finishing tenth in 2x2x2. Medhansh Mithil Oza contested all five disciplines, dropping his 2x2x2 Cube best by 65.2 percent to 2.70 seconds, improving his Square-1 mark by 19.5 percent to 1:12.09, and securing a ninth-place finish in Square-1. Anay Padia lowered his 2x2x2 Cube personal best by 46.5 percent to 5.00 seconds and chopped 43 percent off his 3x3x3 Cube time to hit 21.04 seconds during his four-event run.
The steady progress continued through the ranks as Hitarth Kadivar cut 41.8 percent off his 2x2x2 Cube record to finish at 5.16 seconds and logged an 11.75 in his first ever official Skewb attempt. Vyom Dhameliya entered four events, posting a 37.1 percent drop on his 2x2x2 Cube best at 4.83 seconds and registering a 9.00 in his debut on Skewb. Ayan Sharma made initial appearances in both Pyraminx with an 8.42 and Skewb with a 17.01 while improving his 2x2x2 mark by 33.6 percent to 7.62 seconds.
