International Showdown Lights Up Alexandria Open 2025 as Egypt Defends Home SoilEnglish

Inside the halls of the Alexandria Sea Scouts Club along the Mediterranean coast, the steady clatter of turning plastic filled the air across October 24 and 25. Competitors gathered over two intense days of solving, resetting timers and inspecting scrambled puzzles table by table. The gathering brought 39 competitors together for 20 rounds across 14 events, setting up an intense regional rivalry between Egypt and a talented contingent of international challengers visiting Alexandria, Egypt.

The clash of nations was clear across the podium standings throughout the cubing competition. Host nation Egypt captured 20 podium positions in total, holding firm against strong delegations from Korea, China, South Africa, Russia, and the United States. International standouts pushed the local contingent to the limit across several disciplines, making this WCA competition a memorable cross-border battle of technical precision and speed.

At the center of the rivalry was Xuming Wang of China, who delivered a dominant performance across multiple categories. In the premier 3x3x3 Cube event, Wang secured top honors with a winning average of 7.67 seconds and a best single of 7.11 seconds across three rounds, leading Korea runner-up Taehoon Yoo with 9.10 seconds and South Africa competitor Maverick Pearson with 9.91 seconds in the 3x3 results.
