Matthew Lee Tops Field of 87 at Ajax 3x3x3 Newcomers C 2024English

Eighty-seven competitors arrived in Ajax, Ontario, Canada, on March 24, 2024, to take on a full day of dedicated solving at the Ajax Community Centre - HMS Community Hall. While larger gatherings often spread attention across numerous disciplines, Ajax 3x3x3 Newcomers C 2024 focused every round of action on the classic 3x3x3 Cube. The streamlined format gave both experienced hands and emerging talents the chance to push the standard puzzle through three rounds of intense speedcubing.

Across three complete rounds of the Rubik's Cube, every turn of the face and alignment of the layers mattered. A single-event structure placed all spotlight on 3x3 results, letting the field settle into the cadence of speed cubing without shifting between different mechanisms. For those who enjoy the direct focus of traditional solving, the single-day schedule provided a pure showcase of turning efficiency and lookahead.

Matthew Lee of Canada delivered the standout showing of the weekend, navigating through the final round to secure victory with an average of 6.53 seconds. Lee set the benchmark across the entire tournament, also posting the best single solve of the event at 5.52 seconds. His consistency at the top of the table set the pace for the podium chase in Ajax.

China's Max Xiong claimed the second step on the podium after recording a solid final average of 7.43 seconds. Roan Paone of Canada rounded out the medal positions, posting a mark of 8.66 seconds to earn third place. The podium represented two countries, with Canada taking two positions and China earning one in a tightly contested final bracket.

Beyond the medal spots, the weekend served as a springboard for several competitors making dramatic individual strides. Aasikan Muhunthan logged a 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 12.36 seconds, trimming his prior mark by 53.5 percent. Roop Multani secured a 12th-place finish while clocking a personal best of 8.52 seconds, a 32.1 percent drop. Tanvi Gawande lowered her personal record to 20.35 seconds, an improvement of 30.9 percent, while Elizabeth Zha turned in a best of 17.06 seconds, running 28.5 percent faster than before.

Other solvers similarly made their presence felt through massive time drops and first-ever appearances. Liyang Ji posted an 11.65-second solve to cut his previous best by 22.5 percent, and Andy Chiang achieved a 10th-place finish with a new personal best of 8.99 seconds, marking a 15.2 percent improvement. Meanwhile, debutants stepped onto the official floor for the first time, with Yuyi Zhang recording a 12.18-second effort in their first ever attempt at 3x3x3 Cube at a WCA competition, and Timothy Lin logging a 12.35-second initial mark in his opening attempt.

The tournament atmosphere throughout the venue reflected a vibrant community gathering in Ontario during the 2024 season. Every competitor in the 87-player field had the opportunity to test their practice under strict timing conditions, making this cubing competition a meaningful stop on the regional calendar.

With all three rounds completed and medals awarded, Ajax 3x3x3 Newcomers C 2024 wrapped up as a definitive test of traditional puzzle mastery. From first-time entrants recording baseline times to the top tier executing sub-seven averages, the single-discipline event highlighted the depth and focus of the local scene.
