Total Focus and Fast Turns Highlight 100. Yıl MBA Cube Weekend 2023English
Inside the halls of the MBA Okulları Çamlıca Yerleşkesi, the usual chatter of a busy gathering gave way to sudden, absolute silence. Competitors stood over the tables, studying the scrambled puzzles before lowering blindfolds across their eyes. In the realm of speedcubing, few disciplines demand such total mental discipline as blindfolded solving, where athletes must memorize intricate piece positions before executing algorithms purely from memory without visual feedback. Across the two days of December 16 to December 17, this intensity set the tone for an expansive weekend of puzzle solving.
The 100. Yıl MBA Cube Weekend 2023 brought together 88 competitors in İstanbul, Turkey, tackling a full roster of 13 official events spread over 21 rounds. In the 3x3x3 Blindfolded final, Kazakhstan competitor Abdulla Bazarbayev secured the top spot on the podium with a winning single time of 1:51.12. Alikhan Zhanybekov of Kyrgyzstan followed with a successful solve of 2:42.98 to take second place, while Metehan Homriş rounded out the top three in a discipline where even the slightest miscalculation leads to an incomplete result.
When eyes returned to the cubes, the 3x3x3 Cube contest produced some of the fastest action of the entire cubing competition. Ahmet Çınar Ablak claimed first place in the main event, delivering a winning average of 7.59 across the final round alongside a best single solve of 7.02. Zhanybekov earned another podium finish by taking second place with an 8.81 average, while Ömer Çetinkaya finished third with an average of 9.28. The 3x3 results capped three rounds of competition among a field of 81 participants vying for the classic Rubik's Cube title.
Ahmet Çınar Ablak proved to be the dominant force across several short-format events throughout the weekend. In the 2x2x2 Cube, Ablak secured the victory with a 2.08 average, holding off Iran competitor Hoomaan Motevalli Habibi, who took second with 3.61, and Zhanybekov in third at 3.84. Ablak also collected top honors in the Pyraminx with a 3.03 winning average and best single of 2.08, before capturing first place in the 4x4x4 Cube with an average of 30.18 and a single solve of 29.03.
Beyond the podium battles, the floor buzzed with athletes hitting major individual milestones across multiple disciplines. Emirhan Duymaz cut his 3x3x3 Cube personal record by 52.1 percent down to 23.10 seconds, while also lowering his 2x2x2 Cube best by 28.3 percent to 8.20 and taking his first attempt at Pyraminx with an 18.12. Kerem Karaçar shaved 49.3 percent off his Pyraminx mark to record an 8.24 personal best, finished 9th in Square-1, and made his first official attempts at 4x4x4 Cube and Skewb. Tufan Ege Bozkuş reduced his Pyraminx personal best by 39.2 percent to 5.63, finished 8th in Clock, and posted initial times in Clock and 3x3x3 One-Handed. Eren Davutoğlu contested 7 events, placed 6th in 7x7x7 Cube, and registered his first marks in 4x4x4 Cube, 7x7x7 Cube, and 5x5x5 Cube.
