Morgan and Dunn Deliver Dramatic Finishes at Grand Pier Spring ClashEnglish
A razor-thin margin of just two tenths of a second decided the 2x2x2 Cube final at the Grand Pier, setting the tone for an intense weekend of top-tier speedcubing. Danny Morgan took the title with a 1.59-second winning average, narrowly holding off Caleb Wolf Dunn, who finished right behind on a 1.79 average. Satya Bhavesh Gala rounded out the remarkably tight podium with a 1.95-second mark. Across three rounds of sprinting through solves, the smallest fractions of a second separated the contenders, delivering the most dramatic showdown of the weekend.
Held across May 16 to May 17, Weston-super-Mare Spring 2026 brought together 81 competitors to the coastal setting of Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, United Kingdom. The gathering served as a premier WCA competition in the region for 2026, featuring 10 official events played out across 17 rounds. The schedule offered a broad test of technical ability, testing speed cubing mastery across standard puzzles, blindfolded memorisation, and single-handed execution.
The 3x3x3 Cube contest, the classic Rubik's Cube headliner, drew a packed field of 76 entrants over three elimination rounds. Caleb Wolf Dunn emerged victorious with a commanding 6.38 winning average and a best single of 5.76. Dunn also produced the defining benchmark of the meet during the 3x3 results by setting a national record average of 5.44 for the United Kingdom. Dunn added a second major victory to his weekend haul in Clock, taking first place among 52 competitors with a 2.78 average and a best single of 2.33.
Danny Morgan established himself as a dominant presence across the larger puzzles throughout the cubing competition. In addition to his edge-of-the-seat 2x2x2 win, Morgan swept every standard big cube category on the program. He took gold in the 5x5x5 Cube with a 46.29 average, ahead of Dunn at 51.50 and Monty Fox at 53.85. Moving up in puzzle complexity, Morgan secured the 6x6x6 Cube crown with an average of 1:26.71 over Dunn's 1:33.17 and Jake Brown's 1:34.47, before sealing the 7x7x7 Cube title in 2:13.96 ahead of Brown and Dunn.
The blindfolded events at Weston-super-Mare Spring 2026 belonged entirely to Ryan Eckersley, who pulled off a remarkable triple victory. In the 3x3x3 Blindfolded, Eckersley topped the 33-person field with a 23.18 single, beating out James Ballantine who finished in 40.69 and Blue James in 43.33. Stepping up to big-cube memorisation, Eckersley won the 4x4x4 Blindfolded with a 1:12.64 single, leading Ballantine and Brown, and completed the clean sweep by taking the 5x5x5 Blindfolded in 3:18.16 ahead of Ballantine and Chris Bonnello.
Behind the top podium spots, several competitors delivered massive improvements across multiple puzzle disciplines. Astro Willmoth cut their Clock personal best by 54.5 percent down to 11.27 seconds while finishing fifth in 5x5x5 Blindfolded. Isaac Jeffries tackled seven events, slicing their 3x3x3 One-Handed personal best by 40.1 percent to 17.13 and logging a first ever attempt at 7x7x7 Cube with a time of 4:41.20. Rafael Tovey shaved 39.2 percent off their 5x5x5 Cube mark down to 2:19.22 and completed their first 7x7x7 Cube in 8:09.23. Gabriela Steer took on eight events, lowering their 3x3x3 One-Handed personal best by 36.4 percent to 35.23.
First attempts at demanding events and breakthrough drops highlighted the weekend for many others. Jacob Cook recorded a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 Blindfolded in 2:02.64 while improving their 2x2x2 Cube mark by 35 percent to 3.59. Joshua Antony Mortimer entered seven events, logging first attempts in 3x3x3 One-Handed at 26.73, 6x6x6 Cube at 3:22.34, and 7x7x7 Cube at 5:19.35. Casper Denton registered a first attempt in 3x3x3 Blindfolded of 3:12.44 alongside a 34.1 percent drop in Clock to 8.43. First-timer Osian Rothwell made a four-event debut, recording inaugural marks of 29.09 in 3x3x3 Cube, 1:40.11 in One-Handed, and 19.51 in Clock.
Technical specialists also found the spotlight in the 3x3x3 One-Handed contest, where Louis de Mendonça navigated three rounds to secure the title with an average of 10.31 and a best single of 9.82. Joseph Briggs took the second spot on the podium at 11.44, while Monty Fox earned bronze with an 11.53 average.
